My family and I have been coming to Loi’s for the past 30 plus years, from the original stall operating out of a house, the relocations to this current shop.
Every time we visit Malacca, this is our go-to lunch place. We usually call it beef bak kut teh coz it’s easier but it’s not bak kut teh, it’s really more a type of namyu beef stew. We couldn’t find this type of claypot namyu peppery beef stew anywhere else. Compared to many years ago, yes it has become slightly diluted, or maybe we just like stronger flavours. So we always ask lady boss to 加浓 for the soup. Of course with that added seasoning, the soup becomes saltier towards the end once it cools down. We also like the spicy peppery taste so we select the add spicy option. You have to adjust to your personal preference.
The shop is manned just by the lady boss and another elderly staff, you have to approach the lady boss to order your meal and the staff to order drinks.
We’ve never had the pork bak kut teh or the mala soup so no comments on that. Give the beef stew a try, if you haven’t had it before there might be a chance it is a weird acquired taste (or nostalgia?). But there’s also a chance you might like it like we do all those years ago and become a...
Read morefirst time here, always wanted to try the first beef bkt but cant meet the time. So impression are more than i expected. i find it very valuable in terms of the portions given. Single portion is way more valuable than i those TC pork bkt i ate last week in mlk raya area. Flavour wise was superb.. i mean all balanced flavour without covering up the natural beef flavour. Soup consistency are on the thick side but its not whisked with thickening agents which i very very much appreciated, i can taste the nam yue existence but its NOT overpowering.. pepper was there to stimulate the flavour a lil bit but its not too strong. So for those that really really know how to enjoy beef.. i suggest u all hv to try this Uniquely Beef BKT. All beef parts was great amount for single portion. Service was good, although its not fast food but i believe quality food takes time to prepare... it might cz of the lack of manpower nor as the crowds. In terms of VALUE, I must agree its wayyyyy more valuable than having pork BkT. btw im not being sponsored by anyone/platform/whatsoever, just some experienced lad working for more than 15 years back of the hse. I will be back...
Read moreI love their beef stew very much! 🤩This is the must visit restaurant whenever I'm in Melaka. Short of staff therefore lady boss and another worker (uncle) will be very busy, but don't worry, they are very kind people.
I bet you(we) couldn't find any dish like this elsewhere in Malaysia. The beef stew is peppery but not spicy, you can request to add vege and beancurd skin (charges apply of course). Soup (free) can be added but depends on availability, ask politely for it.
Lunch time - I usually reach at 11.30am Dinner time - last time I went (Apr22) at 6.30pm and shutter...
