Wasted potential, you don't have to be spectacular just be better. Few little things you can probably improve on The FOH or waitstaff and their role. Walked into the restaurant they were discussing who was suppose to greet us. Felt like they fumbled and we're left at the main entrance waiting for no reason. Doesn't look good if you already have a reservation. Have your staff at least try the food or your signatures. I asked for recommendations, and they felt like they didn't know the menu. No recommendation is a sale lost. I was ready to atleast add another 2 mains. But it is what it is. Waitstaff mentioned some food items will be delayed due to it being a full house. But there are empty tables. Probably understaffed but it doesn't bring out good impressions. I thought the kitchen staff might not be competent enough to handle seatings of this volume, further decreasing confidence in your food quality.
The food. We got the standard food items that probably won't be screwed up. And the food wasn't bad. The chicken burger, kfc wings and salad we alright. The duck pizza crust is too thin. Weak undercarriage, barely toasted. Typical bar pizza, I give it 4.2 on the Portnoy scale. The major screw up came with the steak further solidifying my impression that the kitchen staff can't handle their shyt. The steak came out "fukkin raw"- Ramsay G. The waitstaff denied and argued with me but I know my medium steak. Showed her and to her surprise it is raw. The picture is after they brought it back out and it was cooked perfect this time. Just a tip, please rest your steak a while, otherwise the plate will be flooded with what looks like blood.
Regardless huge potential for this restaurant to be good. At the moment it's mediocre at best. I will return, hopefully it will be better the next round. No more raw steaks please. Thank you for coming to...

There are a few issues need to be taken care of by the Mondrian Restaurant’s management team:
Cleanliness of the glasses and utensils are poor. There was a lip’s mark and food-piece leftover on the first glass I received. I asked to change the glass, second one came still with a lip’s mark on it. It took the 3rd glass before I had a gut to drink. See pictures below as a proof.
Serving was in rush. My mushroom soup came before the utensils, and had to wait quiet a significance time for the utensils to arrive. Not even a sorry from the server- this is the same chinese guy behind the cashier machine.
Not even half through my starter, the main course arrive earlier than I expected. Again in a rush manner. When I asked the supervisor, he explained that the food is served as soon as it is ready. But I expected to finish my starter soup first before I received my main course. By the time I wanted to have my main, the food is slightly cold.
There’s no truffle taste in the ‘Truffle Mushroom Soup’ that I ordered. Not even a single taste of truffle oil or at least anything to do with truffle. I tasted the strong portobello instead. Probably need to relook at the menu, or simply its name. It’s confusing.
Those are the things need to be improved. Luckily the supervisor attended to the the hiccups in professional manners.
Apart from that, the Main Course- Grilled Norwegian Salmon with mango salsa, and the dessert- Strawberry & Cream Smoothies taste are DELICIOUS.

Read moreOn 29th May 2019, I selected this place for dinner with higher than average expectations based on the reviews and website n ease in making online reservation. Ambience was relaxing but the choice of oriental music n our western meal somewhat clashed. I liked the furniture n the ample space it accords diners. It has a nicely designated compound for car park. When I arrived, a table was set up for me. That was a nice touch. The food did not measure up to my expectations unfortunately. My spaghetti marinara was bland, sauce lacked depth, pasta overcooked. The ingredients were fresh though but presentation was uninspired. My daughter's fish n chips were acceptable. The lamb shoulder was also acceptable but mashed potatoes was served sparingly. For the price we paid, hmmm....in all honesty, it was a disappointing experience. I will still be in search for the best spaghetti marinara in Melaka. Btw, after my dinner experience I noticed many reviewers who gave high ratings were 1st time reviewers....hmmm....just an observation. Wonder if it mitigates the less than 5 star reviews to maintain its overall 4.5 star rating average...or I could be wrong....
As of 23 Feb 2023...i m convinced that easily 60% of reviews todate are not genuine diners. Why? Simply becoz there are too many 1 star reviews to ignore given they were very specific abt the low quality service encountered. For a GENUINE 4.5 star and above rating restaurant, the 1 star reviewers' experiences shldnt occur at all and they are recent ones too... do read them. Only upset diners would bother to write lengthy...
