Hans Solo meal - because I didn't want to miss it! Value for money yam rice
The next morning I purposely woke up early just because I wanted to be able to eat this famous yam rice. The fact that I had a Muslim partner traveling together didn't make it easy for me - so the solution was to eat first before he woke up.
I vividly remember the first time I had the yam rice plus the pork soup together with the other half many years ago. It was awesome and since then both of us seldom come back to hits part of Penang.
◾Pork soup with pickles - clear soup type with the sourish from the vegetable pickles. I chose to have spare parts in it to try even though I was not a big fan. All were cleant thoroughly without that foul smell.. just opt for pork meatballs and slices if you don't like innards. ◾Taro (yam) rice - hands down by far the best yam rice that I'd tried so far - bear in mind that I haven't explored much on other parts of Penang yet - with its awesome flavour and the addition of dried shrimp (this is very important for me). Tempted for second bowl of rice but resisted... ◾Braised pork trotters with vinegar - a Hakka favourite and the weakest link due to its not-so-oomph flavour. I prefer this dish to be thicker and more sour (but its just me)

Read moreFood: The asam fish and asam sotong were both quite tasty. The yam rice was okay but it's not my favourite so I can't be the judge but the sambal it came with was very tasty. The soup with fish balls and preserved veg was very flavourful and tasty. The pork with intestines in dark sauce were also cooked well.
Price: The asam fish and asam sotong both cost RM35. Not sure if considered expensive or not but the fish was one small piece only.
Service: Average. Yam rice was a bit of a wait.
Atmosphere: Crowded and noisy during lunch but we could still find a table to fit 4 pax upon arrival. Open air so don't...
