It’s a cosy old school shop, good aircond for hot days and serve the famous Thai coated peanuts for pre-meal snacks.
I’ve been eating at this shop since maybe high school eras like a decade? Or so. It used to be good then meh then we stopped coming. But we passed by the other day and decided to give it a try, it really did not disappoint.
Price is reasonable (Penang standard) not very cheap but not too expensive.
Tomyum Prawns 5 🌟 Sweet sour spicy very well balanced, fresh prawns. I remember the good old days where I would tapau the leftover soup home and add maggi to it. I must say it’s almost as authentic what you can get from Thailand.
Thai vege omelette 5🌟(from me) 3🌟(from my dad) I love deep fried omelette so it’s real yummy for me. My dad on the other hand don’t like deep fried eggs as he finds it too oily and not much fluffiness left. If you like 炸蛋 you will like this. Best soak in the tomyum soup.
Prawn nuggets 5🌟 It was a favourite all round the table. Will definitely order this every time.
Kailan with salted pork 3🌟 The pork was not for us but the kailan was pretty standard decent. Will skip this on the next order.
Otak otak 3🌟 Definitely not for us as well. It’s not bad but not to our liking. It’s creamy mild flavour. We are more accustomed to the traditional Nyonya style with bold flavours, this fell short on flavour and lacked depth.
Red Ruby dessert 🌟x100 It’s a must! MUST! The coconut milk was creamy, red ruby crunchy. It’s not too sweet, refreshing dessert on a hot day, especially after the hot and sour tomyum!
Overall will come back again as I feel that the chef is back on par as compared to a few years back post MCO. Back to being my...
Read moreI was told this is the place to go for authentic Thai cuisine. Apparently the cook is from Thailand so this is the real deal!
First of all, the place seems to be very packed and actually it is full house when we arrived near 7pm that time. Booking is not allowed so you have to queue and luckily we don't have to wait long. Ordered a few dishes and they are all very good. We ordered fried pork knuckle, seafood tom yum soup, fried prawn cake, fried sotong, sambal bamboo shoot, fried omelette, otak otak and tub tim krob for dessert. Oh and also the Thai milk tea.
Honestly, all of the dishes ordered are nice and taste great! My personal favorite is the fried pork knuckle, it is sooo crispy on the outside and yet the meat and especially the fatty part makes it a good contrast texture. My parents loved the otak otak and my kids love the fried prawn cake. The dessert tub tim krob has a lot of ingredients inside unlike other Thai restaurant where usually you get a very small portion of the water chestnut thing inside. So basically everything is yummy la... haha!
Parking outside can be quite full as well but you can easily park across the road near the houses with ample spaces. Now I know where to go if I ever crave for a nice pork knuckle. 😋
5 stars....
Read moreSuperb. Thumbs up. 5 star for both the taste and price. If you were to look at the shop and decor from the outside, you might not be tempted to walk in. However, the moment you open the door, after seeing the large number of diners, and the delicious waft of well cooked dishes, I am sure you will change your mind.
The decor definitely needs a bit of updating. It looks kind of dated. But don't let that distract you from the food. I wouldn't call the menu extensive but it's more than adequate.
Whatever you do, you must order the chaumm egg. It's simply divine. The way they made the vegetables and egg taste crispy is just incredible. The pandan chicken meanwhile was cooked really well with moist tasty meat. The sweet and sour chicken came with generous portion and the crispy skin together with the tasty meat was simply mouth watering.
The petai came with really fresh prawns and accompanying sambal had all the right taste mix. Finally, the steamed squid. It was really spicy but the spice, saltiness and sourness was combined really well.
In short, this is one of the best Thai food available and repeat visits will not surprise me. Especially since the portions they give you is very generous and the price is...
