This place is hands down better than Betty's Midwest kitchen and has so much potential. The food and atmosphere here are much more superior in comparison. That is why I am flabbergasted at the fact that it was empty when Betty's Midwest kitchen was packed.
I ordered the fish and chips whereas my uncle ordered the juicy pork burger. In my opinion, the portion of the fish and chips suited its price. My uncle also really liked his burger but he thought there was something missing. He suggested that the place should add more greens to their dishes. The burger should have some vegetables to make it seem larger and the fish and chips should've had salad as a side.
I really liked the chill ambience in the cafe. The music choice was really good and it really suits the mood of the cafe.
I personally think that what makes this shop not as packed is that the shop sign is dull and does not suit the idea of the cafe. The shop sign is black with orange lightning with a very traditional styled font. Personally, it stopped me from checking out this cafe earlier. In addition, the shop sign does not introduce what the inside is selling. Thus it doesn't attract customers. I think the shop sign would be much better with a lighter colour, a more suitable font to match the chill mood in the cafe and with words like: "pastas, burgers, beverages" to introduce what to expect when entering the cafe.
All in all, this place is criminally underrated and I definitely recommend. I hope this place gets more patronage because it is such...
Read moreDistrict 13 might not ring a bell among cafe hunters but they have been a mainstay in Aman Suria area for the longest time. Before the current location, they used to operate from the row of shoplots where UOB Bank is.
More than just coffee, their food is worth mentioning as my maiden visit to District 13 left me with good impression that I purposely called ahead to book myself a table on a Saturday evening.
◾the evening started with a beautifully plated Grapefruit Salmon Salad that we quickly devoured quickly. ◾Luncheon Meat Fries served in its original could never go wrong. I grew up eating this! ◾Beef bacon burger - enjoy best of both worlds with 180g wagyu beef patty with pork bacon, sunny side egg, cheddar cheese, tomato & lettuce in between 2 charcoal burger buns; served with fries on the side. Expect the runny yolk to ooze out when you sink your teeth in. The sonny gave thumbs up! ◾Iberico Collar - sous vide Iberico meat with Cajun mix served with pumpkin puree & grilled cherry tomatoes. Tender & juicy, drenched in delicious brown sauce.. the prized pork paired well with my Spanish Tempranillo. ◾Chicken popcorn bowl where the squeeze fried chicken cutlets, avocado, grilled tomatoes and shimeji poaches onto a bed of rice that will put a smile on the face.
Service-wise not the best but be patient with them. First floor is available for...
Read moreOrdered Sunday roast and cod with 2 lattes. Overall balance was off so not really worth the price in my opinion.
Cod was good, pomme soufflé was nice but the balance overall was a bit lacking. Works individually but not together. MYR35
Sunday roast was disappointing. The sides and condiments are fine, but the porchetta was dry on the inside and not evenly seasoned. The skin looked alright at first glance but in reality next impossible to cut thru especially with the beautiful but useless knife. Would recommend going to Butchers Table instead if you want porchetta. MYR60
Utensils are aesthetically pleasing but abysmal in function. The weight is weirdly distributed, and will not sit properly on the plate. Worst is the knife as it can't even cut the fried skin of the cod, much less the porchetta.
Coffee is alright if you like it milky and not too strong...
