Neighbourhood seafood restaurant

By far the most popular seafood restaurant along this stretch of shophouses in Taman Bukit Mayang Mas, come weekend and you will struggle for parking as everyone converge in droves to feast on seafood especially crab. A popular area for local as well as surrounding neighbourhood such as Tropicana and Ara Damansara area.

In fairness my trip this time was during lunch time and on weekday, so I didn't encounter any problems with wrong orders, slow service or chaotic situation as compared to weekends. The dishes taste good as well as they don't have to rush orders.

◾mud crab - she's not really a fan of anything strong taste for her crustacean dish so she went for chilly & pepper style. Apart from the fact that the crabs were so puny that I felt sorry for commiting infanticide, the meat was fresh albeit less. ◾Sang har mee - with the noodle deep fried to perfect crispiness, soaking in the eggy sauce.. I quickly walloped all before everything went soft. Glad that they can cook one prawn as some places require minimum 2 prawns. ◾Buttermilk egg floss calamari - my weakness and itchiness for crispy dish prompted me to order this and it didn't disappoint. ◾Kailan 2-way ◾Mock sharkfin soup - because she has weakness for soup so she ordered this.

I read mixed reviews on this particular restaurant. Do not take my word for it... Taste is subjective and come at your own risk.

Notes to myself and others:

  1. service can be slow during peak hours and weekends.
  2. Do not expect service to be fast and attentive. If you want something, just walk towards them and ask. 3)...

Not my first time here and this is a go to place for me if I am craving for crab. Ordered porridge XXL crab at RM135 and also a stir fried vegetable. Food came and we realised that the crab meat tasted bitter(especially the claw part) Certain part of the meat is also yellowish in color. As we only realised at almost the end of the dish we decided to not ask for any replacement.

At the cashier we were served by a relatively young lady, we paid the bill fully as we are not looking for any form of discount. As we were paying, I told her that the crab meat was bitter and have asked if this is normal(worried about food poisoning) in Cantonese. I was ignored the first time, the second time again I asked her, and she just looked at me without any response.

So I thought maybe she couldn't understand Cantonese and then express the same sentence to her in Mandarin and was also given the same silent treatment. We are extremely disappointed as I feel she could at least acknowledge our concern and doubts. There is no question about discounts as we have already paid the bill in full.

Till now I don't know if she couldn't understand what we were expressing or she is just dumb or deaf. Zero response.

I have been patronizing this establishment for years and I WILL NOT go back and take my business else where. To those who wants to give a try, do it at your own risk and enjoy the horrible service from this establishment.

We came back twice to this restaurant. The first time, the dishes arrived randomly but the last one had a 20-minute gap so most of us had finished our rice by then.

The second time, we ordered a pork marmite dish and the serving was extremely small (8 small cut pieces for RM15). We were shocked and asked the lady to make it a medium sized one hoping for a fairer portion. To our surprise, only 5 or so pieces were added. This dish also arrived cold. The meat was tough (had to “chop” it with my spoon) and came served with cucumbers that seemed very unappetizing.

For someone who eats at a lot of dai chou (Chinese dishes) restaurants, I’m shocked by the bad portions and serving times. Was disappointed since the reviews here seemed decent initially.

Will not return again as I’ve given the place two chances already. Go ahead and dine with caution!

Tips: If you’re looking for a place with value for money, this probably isn’t it as the portions don’t match the prices very well (the vegetable portions are alright though).

If you’re coming with a big group, be prepared to be charged a lot and get ready for a second place to eat because you probably won’t be full here.

Parking here is slightly challenging due to tuition centers around, so perhaps park at...

Looking for a local crab eatery and found this on Internet. It was not crowded yesterday when we went at 6.15pm but by 7.15 the restaurant was almost full. There is an aircon section where we were seated. A very authentic, old Chinese restaurant that looks more like a coffee shop. Waitress was friendly and was keen to offer the big crab option. When we accepted the offer, she looked happy. She later came in and show us the price tag for the crab which was 151 rm for 1. Apparently Big crabs are individually priced and you could choose it at the entrance of the restaurant in some styrofoam box. So this restaurant is an honest restaurant. Crab was meaty, fresh ,tasty and full of gravy ( we ordered butter crab ) i needn’t have ordered extra sauce. Personally I would have preferred more chilli padi inside. I compared our crab with the standard crabs that others ordered, they are about 2 times the size. Lala bee Hoon is good but not fantastic. Upon settling bill, I asked about the standard crabs, was told that their price is 2 crabs for 104 rm. I will surely come again, and I think I will go for salted eggs crab next time. A nice, happy and yummy dinner!
