MOUNT BORNEO RESTAURANT (SERVE NO PORK) — Restaurant in Sabah

Worst experience ever. On 7Feb2025 after visiting few places in Kundasang, we decided to stop by at this restaurant for lunch. I decided to take my family there because i heard a lot of good reviews about the food and I also been here before for my friend’s wedding reception and at that time the food was delicious.So i have no doubt taking my family here.

At first, when i look at the Menu, i thought the price is a bit expensive but I thought maybe the serving is big, So we just continue to order.

It took around 30-40 minutes for our food to be served, and not all food comes at the same time. My Brother in law’s food is served after we all almost finish eating. But i still have consideration for this, because during the time, there’s a lot of customers in the restaurant. However i would appreciate if the food was served almost the same time so we can enjoyed our meals together.

After the food is served , we all were astonished by the food. The serving is not worth the price, the taste was ok but not delicious. A plain steam rice cost RM3, i think the price was ridiculous. Not forgetting the mineral water 500ml also cost RM3.

After finish eating we just pay and leave, regretting our decision to dine there. This will be the first and last time we went there.

We had dinner on 2/9/23 with a small group of travellers. The food and service is reasonably good. However when it comes to payment, we noted two items that mention "special drinks" at RMB 35 each. On further enquiry we were told they were the 2 bottles (660mls each)of Tiger Beer that amounts to RMB 70. Finding the charge of the beer to be absurd, we sought clarification from the boss himself. The boss's answer was that the waiting staff had informed us of the cost at the time of the order. We were all puzzled at his reply ( would we have ordered it at this exorbitant price, knowingly). In order not to make a scene and not wanting the staff to be blamed, we paid the bill and left with...

We found this place by accident after someone claimed that there was only one Chinese restaurant in kundasang. That is totally untrue...

This place is located in the same building as fairy garden resort. It's actually downstairs. Looks isolated. It has a typical chinese restaurant look and a hall for customers to have thier wedding banquet.

I am so impressed by the quality of food here. Price is reasonable for the portion and quality that u are paying for. I came here three days in a row for my lunch and dinner 🍽️..
