A medley of quick, well past my tea time, grabbed - slices of yam, rum/raisin, coffee crepe cakes, strawberry cake & a matcha custard bun [rm84.50 total] - for a Sunday soirée across the Sarawak river. A chance of a fair test of where my taste bud level stands amongst the local. I thought. And I wouldn't reveal where my offerings were bought from. A sorta blind taste: non-professional one.
Sadly, there was no wow. Largely due to what was consumed before dessert, and the night wasn't purely about cakes. Comments were, "finely rolled crĂȘpe, well made, good for its class, you were probably expecting tiramisu ...". Me: cakes won't go well after eating any Asian cuisine. It needed to compete with the strong taste of Asian flavours. They were too subtle. Think I'll stick to the familiar. CrĂȘpe cake isn't my thing then.
16th St is a well established bakery from what I'd read via the media, and glean from my first visit. Likeable charming staff, and with a well filled capacity crowd at about 6pm. It is in the middle of nowhere, but that's the lay of the land imho. It's as good as any should you find yourself within the vicinity for a tea or coffee, & cake break.
They would certainly win me over if they make almond...

I've tried the cakes before (a friend bought for me) n they think they're really good. but is this the right attitude just because ur cake is popular? i guess u probably make a lot of money already. after this experience i don't think i would give my hard-earned money for ur damn expensive...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this famous cake shop recommended by my cousin. It's quite well-known, and we tried the salted caramel crepe cake and the tiramisu crepe. The salted caramel layer on top was decent, though the flavor of the other part, especially the cream was a bit mild. The tiramisu, on the other hand, had a very intense coffee rum flavor that might be too strong for some. The cream in both crepe cakes was thick, giving them a soft and creamy texture.
However, both of us werenât really fond of the cakes overall. Considering the high price, we didnât feel very satisfied. We also tried the matcha latte, which was quite bland and...
