This is a higher-end restaurant.
It isn't like Michelin star level, but it's pretty high for the area of Kuching. The prices are pretty crazy for this city but not for a foreigner. I ended up spending 278 ringgit on 6 adults, which is quite a lot for a city of 5 ringgit currie bowls and 10 ringgit cakes.
I thought it was pretty good. We had:
Deep fried spicy fish. It was pretty good. The portions were extremely small. I paid 29 ringgits for a small fillet. It was spicy and flavorful.
Deep fried prawn balls. Pretty good. Definitely comfort food. It wasn't greasy at all.
Salt and pepper squid. There are numerous ways this dish can go wrong. But this restaurant was "on point". It wasn't greasy. The squid was good and fresh, firm but not too firm. The batter wasn't too thick, a sign that a place is trying to cut corners. It was a perfect example of the dish.
Roasted duck: Pretty fresh and standard. Tasty and rich. It's pretty hard to mess up duck.
Beef in black pepper sauce: really good. The beef wasn't tough at all. Lots of veggies and was a pretty good size when you ordered the medium
Crab, seafood and tofu soup: I didn't like this one, but the others did. I found it bland and lacking in taste
The food was pretty good and I usually dislike chinese food.
The issue was if you ordered something, the server would make you wait 5 min, and then tell you the item was out. This happened a few times and I was a bit frustrated. I ordered the pork belly. They then came and told me it was out. I ordered the roast chicken, they came and told me it was out.
Also, FYI, tons of the food on the menu are sweet. You have to ask. Malaysians are ballsy enough to be adding sugar to meat, something totally shocking to me. When they do that, it's like ripping apart a Mona Lisa and using it...
Read morePlease stay away from this terrible restaurant! Brought my family here for lunch and we suffered diarrhea from it! We suspected their fish had an issue and one of our chicken dish even had a foreign matter as per photo attached. Staff did not even apologise to us, asked for the supervisor, also no apology at all. We had to request to cancel off the dish ourselves. Horrible customer service and non-existent recovery service. We finished our meal at almost 2pm on Monday. I called the Boulevard higher management Mr Edmond on Tuesday Morning but he was away, the receptionist passed my message and told me to wait for his call. I waited until 1pm but Mr Edmond still did not call back so I sent a complaint message instead to the restaurant manager Mr Kho. The reply I've gotten from Mr Kho was just shocking and disappointing. After complaining regarding our dirahhea issue and pointing out the foreign matter in our dish with photo attached and all Mr Kho replied was "NOTED ON ALL YOUR COMMENTS. THANKS." Zero apology and zero customer service. Having such a manager to run a restaurant is seriously a joke. When the higher management Mr Edmond called me, he claimed I've complained about the diarrhea issue to Mr Kho at 1pm the next day was "LATE" (which was still within 24hours since my family dined) , but in fact I've been trying to reach him since the morning but he wasn't reachable. He also insisted that their fish had no issue at all but he did not even investigate the matter. There was no black and white as proof. This whole management is a total disaster to the Boulevard Group. Will never return to this restaurant. Based on most of the recent reviews, the quality of the food has dropped tremendously and service which has always been bad , has worsen. Don't waste your time and money in...
Read moreHad our family reunion on second day of Chinese New Year 2016 here and this is our (24 pax of us ) experience:
The Lou Hei was pathetic with color dried cracker in place of the fresh carrots and white radish shred. at least 30-40% of their Lou Hei was the dried crackers!! We ordered 2 sets of the Set B which is RM599 each, with some drinks and side orders. I expected the quality of their serving to be much better but sadly, it was a big disappointment. All my guests had the same opinion.
the dessert - fruit platter was SOGGY - pieces of OVER-RIPE and mushy papaya and watermelon that were obviously been prepared hours before! No creativity at all in serving at least some kind of signature dessert. Big disappointment also here.
at booking, I specifically asked for special vegan - meals for 2 of my guests. the staff called the restaurant manager to speak to me and he specifically said, "The restaurant can handle (create special) vegan meals for my two guests! - it turned out during that night, my vegan - guests had nothing to eat (becoz the staff said, they do not serve ala carte at all during CNY period). My vegan guests had to settle with eating one of the vegetable dish only.
The staff can hardly communicate! I really hope the restaurant management will put in effort to train their staff better, in basic customer services communication as well as importantly, product knowledge.
Very sadly, none of the dish crossed my 50% mark except for their soup which was pretty nice a 80% for their soup!
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they show improvement in the quality of food.
I wish the restaurant good luck! even without my review - please do something to improve your meals or risk going out of business!...
