Unpopular opinion: OVER-HYPED and OVER-RATED.
Did the long-distance travel, the ridiculous queueing (TWICE) - one for payment and another for collection đđ¤Śđťââď¸ Their oval cookie was underwhelming. Choc chip cookies dipped in cold milk has long been a staple in the west, guess Malaysiaâs just catching up on it. đ¤ˇđťââď¸ The cookie itself is rather doughy on the inside - i get that itâs meant to be âsoftâ but Iâve had better bakes elsewhere. The local âChips Ahoyâ brand of cookies you can get from the supermarket tastes much better with cold milk than this. No joke.
Their only redeeming factor is the melted Callebaut chocolate they slather on almost ALL of their desserts. THATâS the only good thing thatâs caught all the hype, coz their desserts by itself is completely bland and tasteless. So honestly I think what people are raving on is the melted Callebaut choc itself thatâs making desserts taste better than its own.
The cafe operations itself - is not really friendly territory for new patrons like me. Stepping inside, there were already 2 separate Qs, no clear signs which is for which, and when inquired with one of their staff, he mentioned âOh for items in New Menu, you have to make payment there and Q for collection hereâ And then youâre left wondering - New Menu? Again no signs indicating what constitutes their âNew Menuâ coz as far as I was concerned, the oval cookie and cake-in-bowl have been viral for MONTHS AND MONTHS on end. So whatâs in New Menu??
Cafe operations wise they can have better structure and system - signboards, to indicate process of purchase, what items are in âNew Menuâ and quota of âone item per customerâ only policy, pricing of items. Also menu for savoury dishes and non-dessert items can also be on this signboard (a blackboard to be hung above the counter) so it can be the first point of reference when a patron steps into the cafe, instead of behaving like a confused and lost chick.
And also, to avoid the ridiculously LONG q-lines, Iâve noticed a lot of the serving process time can be cut off by preparing items before hand - ice cups can be pre-prepared and kept in chiller/cooler, milk can be kept in fridge to prolong the cold temp instead of kept in bulk in a box, one runner staff to make sure croissants are heated and always in stock so patrons donât have to stand aside to wait for them - even prolonging the waiting time, and etc etc etc. (They shd hire me to be their Ops Director really, haha. So many things can be improved on) I had all that time to study their work flow while q-ing long for just a damn cake-in-bowl and oval cookie - all over again AFTER a long queue just to make payment.
And also, itâs better to have the cashier counter in the front near the entrance instead of at the back. But yeah it is what it is..
Anyways itâs the first and last for me to this place - I think for any business doing desserts, your best bet is to switch to Callebaut chocs - itâs a little pricier but the ROI is totally worth it - heck you can even get away with meagre tasting dessert - just slather on Callebaut and instantly itâs a...
Read moreLetâs see⌠How many years has it been since the shop opened? Judging by the years of their experience, i have but one conclusion. This brand just loves to keep people waiting, dont they?! Thats it! Because I really just couldnât find any other reason as to why people have to wait so long just to buy some chocolates.
You can try to give excuses. But, may i ask, why and how could the management, provide merely two workers in hirabbit for assisting customers, on a MONDAY? Nothing justifies it. Idk about the details, maybe somebody took mc? EL? But please know it is simply just painful to see just ONE guy, taking up the orders for the chocolate, then he had to wrap the chocolate, take out a damn STRING, put the string on a tag through a small hole, then wrap it on the chocolate, then cut all the ribbons. Do you even realize how time consuming the process is, even on the hands of an expert? I think it took him 3-5 minutes to finish the task. I forgot to time it. I was too bewildered witnessing the thing going on in front of me, my mouth was wide open. I couldnât brain the reality, that THIS. THIS is what keeps most people waiting. This is work abuse, and I am well aware you are rich enough to provide more workers to complete this dumb task. Maybe the people in the design department should be fired? How sadistic of the designer. This is completely inefficient and a complete waste of time! Do better guys.
Usually i just use personal shopper to buy my chocolates. But today i had to come due to some unavoidable reasons and witness the ugly truth behind the reason why people had to wait so long just to buy chocolates.
I dont have to encounter this problem in Laderach. Or elsewhere. You can argue more people goes to SD than other shops because it is much cheaper. If we have to compare, take McD for example. Their food are harder to prepare, and there are many customers there. People dont have to wait so long because they have mastered the art of saving time. (Oh but dont forget to boycott McD)
Step up your games SD. It is high time you spend more money on more workers doing menial stuff like just wrapping the chocolates and let the seniors do the demanding task.
This is plain embarrassing. I guess iâll just have to spend more money on Laderach than supporting our local brands. Tastes better, too. I would very much love to support our local brands and see them grow.
How very sad.
Do remember everyoneâs time is precious. If you dont take care of peopleâs time, you will lose your customers one day. The people among my circle hates the idea of going to SD just because of the waiting time. And we tend to spend hundreds and thousands of our money on good...

Suka Dessert is truly a paradise for chocolate lovers! From the moment you step in, youâre greeted by the rich aroma of chocolate that sets the tone for the indulgence ahead.
Dine-In & Takeaway Setup The system is well-organized: if youâre dining in, make sure to queue on the left side, while the right side is dedicated to takeaways. For dine-in orders, everything is conveniently done through a QR code system, which speeds up the process and keeps things hassle-free.
The Must-Try Desserts Their menu is a chocolate loverâs dream, but a few standout items deserve special mention: ⢠In Bowl Cake: This is an absolute masterpiece! The texture is moist, the flavor is rich, and itâs best enjoyed on the same day for that gooey chocolate experienceâotherwise, the chocolate hardens a bit. ⢠Petite Pancake: This is one of my must-order items every single time I visit. The fluffy texture paired with decadent chocolate is simply irresistible. ⢠Bucket Cookies with Farm Fresh Milk: A total game-changer! The cookies are perfectly baked, and dipping them into the fresh milk takes the experience to another level. Itâs nostalgic yet so refined.
Heads-Up for First-Timers If youâre visiting for the first time, be prepared to queue for at least 15 minutesâsometimes longer during peak hours. But trust me, the wait is worth it.
Ambiance & Service The ambiance is cozy, perfect for unwinding with friends or indulging in some solo chocolate therapy. Despite the crowd, the staff manages everything efficiently, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone.
