Note: I heard that there were mixed reviews on this restaurant.. long waiting time, the quality was not as good as the past, non-existent customer service. But during the time I went there, it was all good because the lunch was organised and pre-ordered few days prior by my drive Kaki.
Sinki is one of the oldest and most established restaurants in Dengkil, an area that I could count with my fingers on how many times I've visited. It is a sleepy town next to the more glamorous Putrajaya and I remember passing by when I drove to Banting many many years ago. I do not know what's good here as I've only been to two restaurants - Dengkil (Lee) Seafood and now Sinki.
The restaurant was packed to the brim when I arrived but our tables were ready and not long after, the foods were served. ◾Stewed pork trotter - it was huge, the skin was crispy and the meat was still tender. Did I mention that the tendons (I purposely dug this part out) were soft and chewy? ◾Chilly fish - perfectly deep fried and smothered with thick luscious spicy sauce (and did I detect fermented bean paste?), Shallot, garlic and chopped bird eye chilly. ◾Kon cheen Har Lok (river prawns) - these freshwater prawns were tossed in the awesome superior soy sauce ◾Kung bao cuttlefish ◾Steamed fish balls and taufu - generously portioned.. one can actually play pingpong with the fish balls (a testament on how good the fish balls were). Taufu on the other hand was silky smooth, a perfect pair-up with the fish balls. ◾2 plates of greens - stir fried kangkung with chilly and another one which I forgot the name.
This lunch was planned in advance and when all of us (3 tables) arrived at the restaurant, it didn't take a long time for the dishes to be served. It was full house when we sat down, proving that this restaurant stands the test of time. The most important part is the camaraderie of our...
Read moreRevisit this restaurant where time seems like standing still at this small town. Nothing changes. Still the same old style shop. Maybe more photos of VVIP i.e. politicians, artist that visited this restaurant. Noticed more young people are working there. Didn't see the old generation. I guessed new generation has taken over.
Reached here around 12pm on Friday. No crowds, so plenty of tables but we seated in the air conditioning room where only 2 tables available. Ordered the regular popular dishes - fried fish with spicy source, fish balls, steamed freshwater prawns and fried kangkung for 4 of us. Dishes were served without much waiting time. The dishes are still generally good. Just the fish source is not as spicy as before. Losing the 'kick' of spiciness.
After meal you can hop over next door to buy the hand made steam pao.
Well the visit brought back many...
Read moreParking at the restaurant can be challenging as it is located on main street along the police station in Dengkil, Sepang district.
The fish we were served was small enough for two persons. Deep fried was the method used to mask less-thnq-fresh meat and speed up the cooking process.
The Emperor green vegetables and homemade tofu with fish balls were streamed, but the overall flavour of dishes was bland as per the less salty trend.
The fish might have been more enjoyable if it had been steamed, provided it was fresh. It’s possible that the fish is purchased in bulk, fried in advance and then reheated with gravy to satisfy an order quickly.
The best part is the monk fruit water ( loh han quo fruit). It was much watered down as more crowd squeezed into restaurant and quickly finished!
2 pax lunch...
