Kek Jalan Tiung is one of the more successfully artisan cake house in Klang Valley, when they first started a few years back. People were raving about the cakes and it was one of the most hunted commodity in the market.
I have to give a disclaimer up front that I am not a cake person, however I wasn't impressed with the cakes at all. We took the liberty of ordering a few cakes and took the recommendations from the counter staff too, to ensure that we ordered the popular cakes. In no particular order, I find the sea salt brownie, to be quite sad. Such a measly piece and not as fudgy as I would expect what a brownie should be. The salted caramel chocolate cake (which is recommended by the staff) was okay-ish, moist but not outstanding in taste. The pengat pisang cheesecake, had a lot of potential, but fall flat in taste, I cant taste the cheese and it taste more like the jelly one could buy at the bazar ramadhan. The slightly above average I guess would be the cookies and milk, but then nothing to shout about.
As a saviour, the cafe is nicely decorated, staff is friendly, and the place is like a hipster heaven in the middle of a quiet neighbourhood in Shah Alam.
Would I drive over 40km to seek the cakes from this place? I won't, the money saved will be better spent at many other bakeries in KL that serves better cakes. Again, this is my personal view and maybe my tastebuds are not aligned with the produce of this...
Read moreUsed to frequent their cafe in Seksyen 9, this is my first time at this new outlet. My initial impression is that I love that they're now more accessible as the cafe is on the ground floor.
The previous location was very busy, hard to get parking and the fact that you needed to take the stairs and check if they had seats were already off-putting to me, so I definitely prefer this new premise.
It's located in a residential area, and while there's an open parking space nearby, if it's full, you have no other choice unless you park in front of the houses which will clog the already small lanes.
At the time we went, unfortunately there wasn't a lot of variety available but they do have new hot breakfast menu. The staff was very friendly and prompt. Very happy with my raspberry latte, it smells berry-fragrant and tastes good too.
We had the raspberry pistachio cake (our fave!), the croissant (a bit dry and less buttery than we would've preferred) and the chocolate tart (choc was good but the base was very dry and tough to eat).
We loved the raspberry pistachio cake so much that we bought another one for to-go. The cafe has a number of seats but they were probably rearranging their stuff because it looked a bit cluttered and messy.
Would visit this cafe again but I definitely hope they'd have more...
Read moreI went there with my friends, thereâs only one table available that time and the table was not clean, there were dirty plates from previous customer. So we decide to order first and then sit at the table. While waiting for our order, we still look around for the staff to clean up the table but they simply donât care to clean up the table. We call for the staff twice to clean the table, all they say was âokayâ and then proceed to do their work. I donât really care if it was only one plate but there are probably about 5 plates with small croissant flakes all over the table. Then our order comes the staff put our order on the table but still did not have the common sense to clean the table. I pay for service tax and this is not what i expected. Waited 10 minutes for them to pick all the dirty plates but they dont care. I am furious so i did that myself i clean the table myself. By the time we want to eat the cookies, itâs already cold cause we waited for them to clean the table. Bad experience. Staff was not friendly at all. And for that one staff u know who you are, please clean your customers table, its not that long to do...
