Yuen Chun Heong Bak Kut Teh Restaurant — Restaurant in Subang Jaya

YCH serves a pretty decent BKT. It’s not the thick collagen rich Klang style one or the herbal Teochew version. Theirs is a soupy mildly herbal soup which is quite pleasing too. The meats were well cooked. The Big Bone and Pork Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. This are Recommended.

The Dry BKT was very flavourful, with enough dark soy sauce, dried chilli and dried cuttlefish to make it an umami bomb. The meats used are equally tender at the soup BKT. This is Highly Recommended as well.

Braised Chicken feet were well cooked and tender and came in the same BKT soup. It’s good, but not the best I’ve had.

Yam Rice is available here and the rice came with lots of chunks of yam. The rice was flavourful enough to eat on its own. This is Recommended as well.

I rarely leave bad reviews, but this place was a complete letdown. First off, the service was terrible. The staff looked like they didn’t want to be there — slow, unbothered, and totally disengaged. Had to wave multiple times just to get anyone’s attention, and even then, they acted like it was a chore to serve us.

Now to the food — which was supposed to be the highlight. The bak kut teh was honestly very underwhelming. The soup was ridiculously salty, lacking the depth and herbal aroma you’d expect from a decent bowl. It tasted like someone just dumped soy sauce in hot water and called it a day. The meat wasn’t tender either, just dry and tough.

For take away, you have to careful as they do take dishonest advantage on the customer when there are chances. We ordered take away for 3 pax and 2 pax front hock cut (small bone) but they gave us mix cut with mostly fatty skin where there is no front hock at all.

Sometime ago during eating in, the lady owner also rebuff us when we inform nicely the serving is not front hock during serving as per our order without looking at the serving. Luckily the male supervisor saw it and acknowledge the mistake and change for us.
