The Restaurant had an offer advertised from which I booked the most expensive meal consisting of venison for a business lunch for 2 people 4 days before as my guest informed me he prefers deer meat.
4 hours before I get a call informing me that venison is not available and I will have to do with chicken or fish (unknown).
I had to make an embarrassing call to my guest and inform him that venison was not available anymore and we would have to switch to chicken or unknown fish.
It was such a short notice that I was left with no option but to settle for something else. I couldn't cancel that lunch.
I would never go to a restaurant to eat chicken or unknown fish.
I didn't make it more difficult for the staff of the booking platform as the fault was the restaurant's.
The 3 course meal was quite bland, lacking taste. The fish and chicken tasted like they was frozen.
Positive regarding the service as the staff were fast as we didn't have to wait to be served and tables were cleared promptly after each meal.
The atmosphere was quite nice and relaxed and the waiters did make us feel welcome.
Changed my initial rating from 1 to 2.
Advice: Do not book a table at this restaurant. Better walk in or call and check what they have on the menu on the same day.
Feeling: It was very disappointing for me and my guest given the reviews and overall rating. I am not sure I'm having another business lunch over there until some of those things...
Read moreThe first time we visited Le Fangourin restaurant, it was closed for a private event. Hungry and disappointed, we had to find another place to have our lunch. (But in a happy turn of events, we got to try Mauritian seafood at another place; details in the review of L’Ocean.) But we were lucky the second time, and we ended up having one of our best fine dining experiences in Mauritius! This charming, sunlit restaurant sits on a lawn next to L'Aventure du Sucre museum. The chirps of mynas, sparrows and bulbuls that hop around (and sometimes even venture to watch us from a nearby chair!) made the dining experience peaceful and pleasant. Helping us make our food choices was Ms Elisabeth with a warm and open smile. We loved every dish and every drink she suggested for us! Among them, the Tropical Lazy Dodo is a must-try; the Jackfruit and vegetable of the day Cannelloni, exceptional; and the Crème brulée, light, but delectable. Initially Ms Elisabeth suggested a Dark chocolate cake for us as dessert. A minute later she came back with a question – she remembered that we already had the cake, albeit a smaller portion, that came with the Rhum emotion we had ordered earlier. She wanted to know whether we wanted to change our dessert order, because we had told her before that we wanted to try as many different kinds of dishes as possible! What a sweet and thoughtful person… Such interactions with the lovely people of Mauritius made our vacation...
Read moreAn absolute tourist trap. The food is four times as expensive as in Mahebourg. DO NOT GO FOR A SANDWICH THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!.
We waited 10min before we finally managed to get a waiter to seat us - we wanted a sandwich and was seated at a couch table. We spend 10min more to actually get a menu card. We spend an additional 20min before a waiter came to us and asked if we had ordered - we had not. It took a further 20min to us bring 2 sandwiches, 2 soft drinks and 2 cups of coffee.
Meanwhile a couple that came later than us and also just wanted a sandwich initially, but then went for their overpriced “gourmet” food and was reseated at a table managed to get their order taken in less than 5 minutes after being reseated and had food on the table 10min later.
Absolutely despicable service. A paying customer is a paying customer and you treat them equally.
They only get 1 star because the sandwich...
