El Mezquite Restaurante — Restaurant in Baja California

As guests of the connected hotel (La Estancia Inn), we decided to go to El Mezquite for my birthday. To my surprise, my fiance had called ahead to reserve a table and their best bottle of wine (which ended up being a 2007 for $100 - yikes!). He also told them it was my birthday ahead of time and asked that they provide a small dessert and candle - so that I could make a wish.

Every time I go the food is horrible and expensive. I took my mom and aunt because they told me the food was better than last time I went, so they order enchiladas rojas and what they had was three old and cold tortillas just with a tomato sauce without any flavor and not even deep the tortillas in the sauce this was in the top of the tortillas, my mom and aunt didn't say anything because they don't want me to feel bad about taking them to this "special restaurant". In our way back home during the trip they mentioned to me that have a comment about it and they let me know that the enchiladas rojas were only hard, old and cold tortillas and taste really bad! Also all the food needed salt, looks like the new "chef" was coming to work in a hospital none of the food was good, not even the drinks or desserts, I'm very disappointed with the service and quality of the food in such a icon restaurant in...

Had breakfast here after hearing raving reviews from people in our family who had eaten here the night before. The food was amazing, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was authentic and calming. The bathrooms were impressive as well with the design. Back to the food, we had many different items, my children raved about the pancakes, and I had an omelet that was perfect with chorizo. The chilquiles were perfect crispy and flavorful.
