We're from Mexicali, a mexican city that is next to Los Algodones, my mom and I were in town so we did a google research to find a place to eat, we found this place taking in count the photos and good reviews but our experience was very far from comfortable and delightful.... and i'm not complaining about the appearance of the place, as mexican I've been in humblest places than this one and with excellent food and service... At first, there was a very nice lady that received us but she got busy and then the owner took our order. The owner was very rude to us, and by rude i mean he spoke to us very sharply and didn't have patience with our questions, he didn't even make eye contact when we spoke to him. I have to say that we were speaking spanish with a local accent and we had some concerns about the menu. I didn't understand why he was so nice and polite to those around us who looked like foreigners from the U.S., but with us he was totally different during the whole visit. In pictures he looks so charismatic with american customers and you can read reviews with nice things about him. When we paid he threw the money at my mom and didn't even said thank you, he just left. There are no prices in the menu and we ordered without asking for prices. When we asked for the check account the owner started to write prices on a random piece of paper and improvised the check just in front of us. It gave me the impression that the he sets the prices depending on how he estimates the customer. Anyway the food is hugely overpriced compared to other mexican restaurants in the area with better food, service and facilities. Our orders took longer than expected, we asked a couple of times about it and the food was late because the owner didn't pass the order to the kitchen.
The food was disappointing, I ordered grilled chicken and it was flavorless and DRY, believe me, I LOVE SONORAN STYLE GRILLED CHICKEN and i know how the taste is, also the chicken pieces were ridiculously small and the amount of rice and beans were not like the pictures, it was less. My mom had one chile relleno and one tamal, the chile relleno was also dry and had no salt and the tamal had a minimal amount of stuffed meat. The tortillas were almost cold. The only thing we enjoyed were the flavored water, salsas and tortilla chips.
I wonder how it would be our experience if we didn't look like local people and if we were speaking in english. Too bad for this man and his principles. Definitely we're not coming back and don't...
Read moreExceptional food and service. The gentleman that served as waiter treated me exceptionally well. He was there to intervene when some of the people selling things were being pushy and invasive and he answered questions honestly and with integrity about specifics and claims of their merchandise. He chose honesty and integrity without hesitation. He was clearly an honerable man and I value his service not only as a great and attentive waiter but as a honest decent gentleman who was protective and genuinely cared about his patrons. The food quality and service are the best i have experienced in this town consistently and i have had the pleasure of dining there for almost 3 years apprx. The prices were the best in town as well. I would rate my experience 10 stars if I were allowed to. My full breakfast eggs bacon tortillas awesome condiments (salsa guacamole a delicious mayonnaise based sauce) with two sodas chips etc was well under 10 dollars. And the orange slice and cucumbers and other garnishments were served in a way that shows the highest level of care and class. It was an honor to tip well and he deserved it. This great place deserves...
Read moreThis place is just OK. Not bad enough to not Pay. For being in Mexico it wasn't cheap, about average compared to home. Thought it would have been better based on the reviews. Tried several things. Fish Soup (taste like frozen fish), Tongue Taco (the meat has no flavor), Beef Tamale (way too much dough, meat was fine), Steak Fajita combo dinner(Meat really not good, tough rubbery, no flavor w/green peppers & Onions and side of rice and beans). Also had beer, the only one offered was Tecate on tap.
We were in town for the dentist like everyone else, but most people are from places like ID, MT, ND etc... Places that probably don't have a lot of Mexican food restaurants. So when you read all the outstanding reviews take that into consideration. We live in southern Calif where there are many Mexican restaurants in all different price ranges. Next time I'm in town I'll try another one on the list and hope to find...
