Tacos el Nuevo Poblano — Restaurant in Baja California

We went to Tacos el Nuevo Poblano this evening and it was fantastic. Both of us said to each other that they were the best tacos we've had in Tijuana (and we've had a lot of tacos). I had the carne asada tacos and they were filled with amazingly juicy asada, cilantro, onions and a big serving of tasty guacamole. My partner had the adobada tacos and they were amazing as well. It's a simple menu but they do a stellar job with the meats they specialize in. There was no line when we arrived but by the time we left there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. Tacos el Nuevo Poblano is a little further out from the typical tourist haunts since it's located in the Buena Vista area but it's well worth the slightly longer drive for the authentic food. We found the service to be friendly and prompt - all employees were busily working. From what we could tell there is only street parking in the neighborhood. Entramos directo al caos absoluto de las tortillas. Había como 6 (o tal vez 4, ya estaba emocionalmente comprometido) personas haciendo tortillas a mano como si estuvieran en una competencia de vida o muerte. Y luego, una persona completamente dedicada a hacer guacamole fresco. Nada de cosas de supermercado — guacamole fresco, del que te hace cuestionar todas tus decisiones anteriores en la vida.

Detrás, mínimo una docena de personas estaban en la parrilla como si estuvieran en los Juegos Olímpicos del taco. Carne volando, humo subiendo, espátulas girando — un campo de batalla, pero en lugar de soldados, puros chefs con talento sobrenatural.

Alright, let me set the scene. This place wasn’t just busy — it looked like a food truck collided with a block party and nobody wanted to leave.

We walked into absolute tortilla mayhem. There were like 6 (or maybe 4, I was emotionally overwhelmed) people just cranking out tortillas like tortilla robots. One person was fully dedicated to making fresh guacamole — not frozen, not store-bought — FRESH. The kind of guac that makes you question all your life decisions leading up to this moment.

Then there were at least a dozen people at the grill working like it was Taco Thunderdome. Meat flying, smoke rising, spatulas flipping — it was a full-on taco war zone, and these legends were winning.

Now, I’ve eaten a truly shameful number of tacos in my life. But these? These tacos didn’t just taste good. They tasted like someone high-fived your soul and said, “You deserve happiness.”
