I went on a nice motorcycle ride in the South East part of San Diego. I was near the Tecate border and decided to park on the US side and walk across the border for some tacos. I usually go into the heart of the town to my usual taco place but I wasn't feeling walking that day and I knew that this place was literally one and a half blocks from the border crossing which is why I wanted to eat there.
The service was great and the food was pretty good. I ordered two tacos de carne asada and two tacos de cabeza. The carne asada tacos were good but I've had lots better. The tacos de cabeza were excellent, I really enjoyed those. The waitress ensured that I had enough food, salsa and drink, always checking on me. I washed my tanks down with a strawberry soda, delicious.
While there are many places to eat tacos in Tecate, and some of them are even better than Los Panchos, I'd still recommend them for this reason; the food is good and the service is great but, if you're out in the San Diego eat country and are craving a real, authentic Mexican taco meal, then just park on the US side, walk across the border and you'll see Los Panchos on your left side after you've walked a block. We asked for a few seranos and onions, the chef threw them on the grill for us. Make sure and ask for the “hot” salsa. We were too early for the adobada. We saw them cart it out to start cooking....
Read moreI was recently taken to Tacos Los Panchos and it went straight to the top of my taco stops while in Tecate. The hand made tortillas are incredibly good, the different types of meats are delicious and the prices are very affordable. Do not pass on the opportunity to eat here if you have a chance to do so....
