I was reliably informed that Lai Wah Yen is the best Chinese restaurant in Cd. Juárez, and serves the best Almond Pressed Duck around... and I absolutely agree! Chinese restaurants in El Paso don't compare. I am aware of only one restaurant in El Paso with Almond Duck on the menu, and after having dinner at Lai Wah Yen in Juárez, I will never eat Chinese food in El Paso again! The Shrimp and Lobster Sauce was delicious too. The waiter was attentive, and spoke English fluently, and they have menus in English as well... and were very generous in allowing me to practice Spanish. The service was excellent, and the restaurant was clean and efficient. I read several reviews describing the prices as being relatively high for the area, but in comparison to El Paso, they seem at least 20-30% lower, even after factoring in the $3 Uber ride, and less than a dollar in Bridge tolls! For USD $30, I was served more food than I could eat! For the best Chinese food on both sides of The Border, go to Lai Wah Yen in J-Town!

So Lai Wah Yen has been a part of my life since I was a child growing up in Juarez. It used to be one of the BEST Chinese restaurants along with Shangri-La and Mei-Ken-Low. Unfortunately I think all that there is left of Lai-wah-yen is the nostalgia and reputation. The food is subpar compared to so many other Chinese restaurants in the city now. The only two things that remain timeless and delicious are the egg roll they give you as an appetizer and the almond pressed duck in sweet sauce. The fried rice was dry and hardly edible :( The service as always is impeccable. The food though…sadly this is quite possibly the last time I visit :(

Probably the most "Chinese" restaurant I've ever been to overseas, from "exterior and interior design" perspective. No joking, this place can even compete with most of the restaurants in Greater China area, as it's really delicate in a lot details. Food-wise, it's a typical overseas Chinese restaurant flavour 😄, everything comes with plenty sauce 🫙

The place is living off its past glories, it is really expensive for what you get, especially compared with other restaurants in Juarez, I ordered their almond duck and their portions were way smaller than what it used to be, the place has not been remodeled in 30 or even 40 years and it shows, the cutlery is the worst, plates and bowls made of cheap plastic, yet you are paying a lot of money, sad to see its decline, it looks old and run down now, I feel bad because I used to love the place, but it is...
