The atmosphere was great and drew us in. The menu said there would be salad but there was none. The tacos, while not in themselves bad, were disappointing because they had no condiments to go with them. The taco with guacamole was just that, one small spoonful of guacamole in a corn tortilla. I’ve had fantastic tacos in the market for cheaper. You’ll pay for the atmosphere really. If you like tequila, that is half of the menu. But my gin and tonic was weak at best. Generally just disappointed, but I have to say the people were kind and helpful even if they spoke no English...

Charming steakhouse with local beef.

La Carreta is a charmingly rustic restaurant, located just off the main Jocotepec plaza. The decor is traditional, warm, and welcoming. Service is friendly and efficient.

The steaks here are apparently sourced from the family's own ranch, which might explain why the beef is of an excellent quality overall.

Pro-Tips: Stick to the more expensive cuts, as the cheaper ones are prodictably shoe-leather-like.

Not much English is spoken here, so be prepared to practice your Spanish.

Don't bring any vegetarian...

The best in the area! I’ve been there twice- I had the Vacio steak in 2020 and have been thinking about that steak until I finally had it again today in 2025- just as delicious as I remembered! The Vacio is the most expensive item on the menu, but well worth it. $375 for a huge, tender steak, served with guacamole, refried beans, and pineapple. I believe all the steaks are served that way. My brother had the tuna steak which he enjoyed. We both had the limonada - our server squeezed fresh...

The food is amazing and their service is quick and friendly. Their leather covered seats and tables, and rustic decor really tell a story and create a relaxed and family-oriented vibe. Also, aside from having a beautiful presentation, the food is authentically delicious and the service is so friendly. You can't miss this place next time you're in town. Highly recommend.
