Chowak Xikin — Restaurant in Mérida

5 star patio, 1 star food. I’m in actual disbelief this place has a 4.7 stars.

I was so exicited to try this place cuz the patio is so cute but the food is a mess and It is SO overpriced. You’d think you were on paseo Montejo not in the middle of Colonia Aleman. The arrechera was so pale it looked like it was microwaved, it came with cold tortillas. the krispy skins were not crispy and lacked flavor. The portabella mushroomed were very salty and cheap cheese was just melted on top. We also got the chowak baguette…it was turkey and pepperoni. For 190 pesos. Serviced with cold veggies. The bolognese flavor wise was my favorite but the pasta was over cooked. The sangria was made with sprite/7up. The service was slow and intermittent.

I didn’t have the brownie with ice cream but it looked decent so if you decide to come here to enjoy the lovely patio skip everything and go...

My wife and I recently walked by this restaurant. The courtyard with tables looked nice and the music subdued so we stopped and shared calamari and a thin crust pizza. The calamari was tender and the pizza crust perfect. We have since gone back two more times, having sea bass (Robalo) and Spaghetti Carbonara the next time and then on our last visit, my wife had a delicious salad with peaches, almonds, tomatoes, arugula, boiled Cornish hen eggs and I had their creamy version of Fettuccine Alfredo. Mauricio, the owner/chef, is an excellent host and loves to talk food giving great detail about how he prepares the dishes. Loved this restaurant. This is my favorite of our trip so far. The vegetarian lasagna was the best I've ever had, the stuffed mushrooms were extremely flavorful and delicious, I could taste the fresh oregano. The steaks are cooked perfectly and really soft.
