TLDR: TERRIBLE service, food was not great and it was way too expensive.
Onto the juicy stuff: We came here for a friend’s birthday, which of course means we were going to be a fairly big table. We ended up asking for a table for 12.
I thought that it’s common sense to want to serve big tables, because, of course, BIG $$$. Well, the waiters at the restaurant did not think the same way. The first thing they said when we asked for a table for 12 was that we would need to pay a “mordida” (corruption), which would be specifically for the waiters. We ended up agreeing because we did not want to move 12 people to a different restaurant.
Onto the food, it was VERY expensive for what they were offering. The flavor was alright, but nothing out of this world; it didn’t blow my mind. So the cost v. benefit = not worth it.
Finally, the service. It was reaaaally slow. We waited 45 minutes for the dish of the first persone to come, and 15 minutes between the following 11 dishes (one per person, we were 12). Obviously, by the time the first person finished, the last one was barely starting.
Here’s the most enraging part: When we paid the bill, we left 10% tips. We considered that we had already paid an extra money to bribe the waiters for a table (which is completely nuts), and that the service itself was really bad. The waiters stopped us from leaving, saying that we were still missing money. We did the math, it was complete + 10% tips. They still said we were missing money and would have to pay before leaving. THEY WERE DEMANDING MORE TIPS. We wanted to leave, so we gave them another $80 pesos and left, enraged.
Moral of the story: DO...
Read moreHave been there twice with mixed results. Service is consistently good but food is not. Atmosphere is great given that the place is in the middle of the National University Cultural Centre, South Mexico City. Food, as I said, goes from good, like some Habanero Pasta I tried once, to average, like the Enchiladas trio, to plainly poor, like the Tortilla Soup. Limited wine list but reasonably priced. Food prices a bit on the expensive side. All desserts I have tried have been...
