What a gem of a restaurant! We've been wanting to try El Mar for a while and we finally got there. The restaurant is located on the 2nd level so you have to go upstairs (for anyone with mobility issues). The atmosphere is so welcoming and beautifully decorated.
I had the mezcalita and it was wonderful. The best way I can describe it is, it's like a frozen mojito with mezcal instead of rum. It's light, slightly sweet, and so refreshing.
We tried a few different dishes and all of the food was really amazing. The portions are generous, we ended up ordering too much food because we are too excited to be there and got ahead of ourselves when ordering. The camerones cucarachas are so crispy and savory. We also got the tuna sashimi which was so good, and a very generous amount of tuna. We also tried the fried shrimp shells, which are like the lightest, best chips you'll ever have.
Our only negative, and this is our fault, is that we didn't realize how savory and rich the dishes we ordered would be. We were just really excited to try some things we've never had before, etc. The next time we go we will take the opportunity to ask the server what he might recommend so that we end up with a more balanced experience. So I would highly recommend visiting, talking with the server or chef (everyone is incredibly friendly), and being adventurous. You will not be disappointed in your...
Read moreLocated in Cruz de Huanacaxtle, El Mar Del Chef Escobedo is a hidden gem. This has been the best food we’ve had in our vacation. The delectable margarita was hand-crafted with freshly grown herbs. The cascaritas was unlike anything I’ve ever had before - shrimp shells fried to an impeccable crunch with a savory dipping sauce. The tacos de la parilla were cooked to perfection. The tacos baja la voz were approved by my 3 year old! For postres, the chef kindly made us homemade churros with an apple relish/compote. Thank you, chef -...
Read moreProbably some of the best seafood you will eat around this area. The agua Chiles El de atrás pagas was absolutely amazing. It was quite the unique take with charged Chile but was complex and delicious. Don't skimp on the tacos either had the Pastor del Mar, Baja la Voz, and Zarandeado. All were absolutely fantastic but the Baja la Voz stood out as a unique take on the Baja taco. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Don't miss it or you will be sad about it. I will definitely be coming back when...
