Review of La Casa Blouet: A Restaurant Full of Potential
La Casa Blouet has so much potential to become a standout fine dining experience in Bucerías. While they are still new and working out some kinks, there are specific areas that need attention if they want to live up to their ambition of being a top-tier restaurant.
The Positives Ambiance & Space (5/5): The space is stunning. The design of the seating areas is both intimate and inviting, creating the perfect balance of privacy and collective energy. The ambiance alone sets the stage for a special dining experience.
First Impressions (5/5): The attention upon arrival was excellent. Our first round of drinks and a bottle of wine were promptly handled, and the service at this point was seamless.
Appetizers (5/5): The appetizers were undoubtedly the highlight of the evening. The ostiones and the heirloom tomato salad with roasted fennel were flavorful, well-executed, and memorable. I can still taste the fennel sauce—it was outstanding!
Wine List (5/5): The wine list is impressive, with a focus on Mexican options, which is always a welcome touch.
Areas for Improvement While the initial experience set a strong tone, the service and food presentation during the main course left much to be desired. These are the areas that need attention:
Service (2/5):
Food Placement: When the main courses arrived, the staff did not know who ordered what, which is a basic expectation for fine dining. Asking "Who had the steak?" diminishes the sense of professionalism.
Wine Service: After the initial pour, there was no follow-up to top up our glasses, leaving us to pour our own wine.
Presentation of Sauces: Two of us ordered the filet with a red wine sauce. The sauce was served in a small cup, and rather than the server finishing the dish tableside, we were left to sauce our own steaks. This small but significant detail missed the mark for a fine dining experience.
The Main Courses (2/5): The main courses, unfortunately, were a disappointment.
Filet: The filet was the biggest letdown. It arrived cold, served on a cold plate, and consisted of two thin cuts of meat with no sear or flavor. A proper filet should be thick, well-seared, and served on a hot plate to maintain temperature. The accompanying fries were also cold and dry.
Chicken: The chicken dish lacked creativity and flavor, failing to impress.
Red Snapper: The red snapper was the highlight of the main courses, but even this was nothing extraordinary.
Overall Experience (3/5): La Casa Blouet has all the makings of a truly great restaurant. The space, ambiance, and attention to wine and appetizers are already there. However, to truly establish themselves as a fine dining destination, the team needs to focus on the little details that elevate an experience: consistent service, attention to presentation, and above all, delivering mains that match the high expectations set by the appetizers.
I hope to return in a few months to see how La Casa Blouet has evolved. Bucerías is certainly ready for a fine dining restaurant of this caliber, but right now, it feels like La Casa Blouet is still finding...
Read moreWe walked by the restaurant (La Casa) last week while exploring Bucerias. After discovering it was a Thierry Blouet (via daughter Vanessa) and had just opened recently, we had to try it out. Having dinned at Café des Artistes in PV, in the past, our expectations were high.
Vanessa and staff (Gabriel and Daniel were our primary table hosts) were fantastic! Gabriel was a pleasure and talked through the menu with us effortlessly and with genuine pride. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed yet upscale while maintaining that "at home" feeling.
You could feel Vanessa's creative side flowing through the many flavors we tasted. The mussels were fantastic, the broth worthy of a second loaf of bread to dip. The ratatouille is a must. The oysters with candied leek and buttery air are an example of her unique combinations that tickle the palate. The onion tart is bursting with flavors. The arugula lemon capers side dish (presented like a sharable salad) was refreshing and delightful.
The char-grilled red snapper was a beautiful presentation, and the sauce served with it is a must-have combination. The sucking pig melted in your mouth with a sweet potato purée and sauce that blended together perfectly.
The pear tart was a warm finish, and the chocolate flan with the rice cloud provided the perfect finish to complement the meal. Overall, the evening was a dining experience we will chalk up as one of our favorites in the 30 years we have been coming to Puerto Vallarta - Nuevo Vallarta - Bucerias area.
Props to Vanessa and staff! La Casa is a must visit up scale dining experience in the quaint Bucerias...
