Charming Hidden Gem Bakery with Delicious Eggs Benedict—Small Portions, Big Personality
This cozy little bakery turned breakfast spot is a bit of a hidden gem in Playa del Carmen. It’s tucked into an older building that carries a lot of character, and the interior is just as charming. Think vintage architecture meets artsy café—walls adorned with local paintings that are actually for sale, mismatched furniture that feels intentional, and a laid-back, creative vibe that invites you to linger.
From the outside, you might easily pass it by. The storefront is understated and gives off the impression that it might be closed—but don’t let that fool you. Once you step inside, the space opens up with a warm, welcoming energy that makes you feel like you’ve found a secret spot known only to those in the know.
One of the bonuses here: parking is available out front, which is a real convenience in Playa where street parking can sometimes be a challenge.
I came here with one mission: to try the Eggs Benedict I’d seen online. The photos looked promising, and the use of baguette instead of a traditional English muffin had me curious—especially since this is a bakery, and bread is clearly their thing. Fortunately, the dish delivered. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was rich but well-balanced, and the baguette had a nice crunch that held up well to the sauce without getting soggy. It was a simple dish done right—elegant in its own way.
My only real critique is the portion size. The dish was small and came unaccompanied—no greens, no potatoes, no little extras. It felt more like a gourmet tasting than a full meal, which might leave some people wanting more, especially at the price point. It’s a bit on the high side for Playa del Carmen, so if you’re looking for value in quantity, this might not be your spot. But if you’re okay with paying a little more for quality ingredients, beautiful presentation, and a relaxed, artistic setting, it’s a great place to treat yourself.
Before I left, I spotted a dessert case filled with beautifully crafted pastries and sweets that definitely caught my eye. I didn’t try any this time, but a few of them looked so interesting that I already know I’ll be back to sample them. It feels like the kind of place where you discover new favorites slowly over time.
Overall, this is a lovely spot to unwind, enjoy a thoughtfully made breakfast, and soak in some quiet charm. Yes, it’s a bit pricey and the portions lean small—but the atmosphere, service, and flavors make it worth a visit, especially when you’re in the mood to spoil yourself...
Read moreMy wife and I randomly stumbled into Belleville while going from Cancun to Rio Secreto. I was actually shocked to discover how good their croissant was. Also, the dark chocolate in it was clearly of high quality - again a surprise given what baked goods we’ve so far gotten in Mexico. My wife and I ended up coming back the next day all the way from Cancun and almost bought out the rest of their selection. Everything is great here, I’m telling you, like the excellent seed bread we bought to take back to the hotel. Even the vegetarian sandwich I got was extremely tasty. The service was excellent and Max the owner was fantastic as well. He clearly cares about the food and the customers.
We don’t have a bakery nearly as good within AT LEAST 100 miles of where we live in Illinois, so now I’m jealous of playa del Carmen. I’d also add that they clearly do not make things very sweet here, which I absolutely hate about most American desserts. Please come here to Belleville if you like excellent French bakeries! You won’t be...
Read moreAppalled by the customer service here. Received a check for 289 pesos, but was billed for 460 pesos! Payed with card, so I didn't noticed this at first and left tips counted from the amount billed. When I returned and kindly asked to check the transaction, the employee at the cashier desk returned me only the difference between 460 and 289 pesos and in cash. The employee didn't offer any apologies for their obvious mistake and kept the whole amount of tips. I take it as a deliberate intention to shortchange customers.
The food was solid A-. Was going to return here, but after this incident with incorrect billing I'm never going to. Not...
