An excellent place to get an excellent meal. Breakfast and "dinner" is served.
Dinner is the typical "comída corrída", which means, literally, "meal on the run". There are usually no choices on the menu.. kinda like what Mom used to have.. "take it or leave it". You sit down, and they bring the first place, usually soup, perhaps spaghetti or similar. Next the "main course".. Almost always rice with side of beans. A meat, which can be beaf, pork, chicken or seafood, most always a "green" dish such as steamed vegetables or leaf salad. Tortillas are "de rigueur", as are "salsas" (sauces) which can range from "very warm" to "six-alarm". Ask nicely, and they will identify them for you. 🥵 A drink, usually an in-season fruit (eg mango) or lemonade, tamarindo, etc. Rarely cola type.
I ate five comidas here. From good, to REALLY good. None disappointed.
Service was basic, but attentive. No English, just Spanish.
Price.... well... tab was $55Mn... In May 2021, conversion came out to $2.50US... Yep, two bucks fifty.... A screaming bargain. 👌
N.B. I lived in México in the 70's, and comídas corrídas had another "home" vibe... you grabbed any available seat.... In these Times of Covid, this may not happen... when I ate here, there was always an empty table, so I don't know if this custom is on-going...most likely it is. This is a profit-maximizing measure, they can serve the maximum number of diners with a minimum number of tables, which is why there is a set menu.. the kitchen makes a minimum option of dishes.. every meal is identical.
Another note... I worked for years in the US, and retired with a so-so pension & Social Security... not rich. But the standard of living in México means my US$ go MUCH further. Which allows me to tip well. This meal would run $10-$15US Stateside.. So I can well-afford to spend $4-$5US on this... so I pay with a $100Mn bill, which equals approx $5US. The waitresses WILL remember you. By meal #3, my glass never got to "half-empy", I was offered extra rice, beans, vegetables, tortillas, and I noticed that the meat serving was considerably larger than my fellow diners. Plus, her smile was genuine 🙂, and by my fourth meal, the manager stopped by my table to make sure I was happy with the meal and service. Small considerations can make a...
