Pozolería Matamoros is a must‑visit for anyone craving authentic Mexican comfort food. From the moment you walk in, the warm, family‑style atmosphere invites you to relax and indulge. Their flagship dishes—the Pozole Blanco and Pozole Rojo—are nothing short of spectacular. Each bowl arrives steaming, filled with tender chicken or pork, hominy kernels, and a flavorful broth that has clearly been simmered to perfection. Toppings like fresh lettuce, crunchy radish, chopped onion, oregano, and lime let you customize each spoonful to your liking
Beyond pozole, the menu offers a delightful range of Pueblan specialties. The Tacos al Vapor, light and savory, come stuffed with your choice of protein and garnished with cilantro and onion—ideal as a starter
I also loved the Tostada Preparada, generously topped with refried beans, protein, crema, queso fresco, and crisp lettuce—every bite bursts with texture and flavor
Service at Pozolería Matamoros is stellar. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, always ready with a recommendation or to refill your bowl. Their warmth enhances the dining experience, making every visit feel like a homecoming.

This is a must go pozolería during your visit to Puebla!
The videos and picture speak for themselves, the pozoles were awesome! So much flavor with the right amount of fat. We tried the pozole blanco and rojo, both medianos and both surtidos (cabeza y maciza / head and Boston butt or pork leg); we also had the tostada quesillo, one taco surtido, one glass of aguas frescas / agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus), and a flan which even though was not homemade very low in sugar and tasty.
We were lucky enough to have a small chat with the owner who explained us that he was the 4th generation and his children were 5th generation, meaning that this pozole recipe had gone through different changes and it was on its 5th generation of trial an error. The service is very high quality, exactly what you would expect in Mexico and in our opinion it is pretty similar to what you would obtain in cities like Paris.
TL;DR: Do not miss having a pozole here if...
Read morePositively the best pozole in town! I especially recommend el pozole de cabeza. If you are not an experienced chile eater yet, the white version of the soup is the safe choice for you to go with: you will be served chile and oregano powder separately, so you'll be able to regulate the level of hottness and flavor in your plate by adding as much — or as little — of these spices as you want. And don't forget to squeeze in some lime juice, which in Mexico is known simply as limón: trust me, it makes all...
