A nice terrace with over-the-top service that was just annoying, paired with mediocre food that made the place not worth it and overhyped. Making a reservation was a bit too convoluted, as there wasn’t a dedicated website to do so. The link on their homepage leads to a WhatsApp chat with the hostess, but even that wasn’t the most straightforward, as they asked one too many questions for just a simple reservation. When we got there, we were given a corner table overlooking the city. Our server handed us menus, and at first seemed helpful, but in the end came off as more of a salesperson. He talked extensively about the menu when we were already overwhelmed and did more harm than good, as he kept pushing us to order alcoholic drinks.
We ordered just sparkling water and were again recommended pricier items on the menu, making it feel like a sales pitch. We had our orders taken and enjoyed the nice breeze of the evening. We waited 40 minutes, which was just unnecessary as the restaurant was barely a quarter full. It seemed excessive, and in the end, not worth it, as the raviolis that I ordered were mediocre and nothing special despite the nice presentation of the dish. The only pro of the place was the terrace and the nice view of the city, but that’s it. The unnecessary wait, sales-oriented server, and mediocrity of the dishes—aside from the elevated prices for average quality—make it not worth a visit. The place, although nice, is just a terrace dressed up in an upscale setting, but nothing else about it justifies a visit. Even the WC was complicated to reach, as there was just one too many steps to get there. Overall, it is a very overrated place and...
Read moreAfter three attempts to dine at Carranza 50 without a reservation, I finally secured a table at their rooftop restaurant tonight—and it was absolutely worth the wait. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding.
The three young hosts at the reception were not only welcoming and funny but also had great haircuts—my kind of people! They pointed us toward the stairs, where our waiter was already waiting to escort us to a table with a breathtaking nighttime view of Querétaro.
Fernando, the manager and chef, personally greeted us and provided fantastic recommendations for both food and wine. I was genuinely surprised by how affordable the menu was—far more budget-friendly than my hotel restaurant, yet leagues ahead in quality and taste.
We started with three appetizers: the esquites with bone marrow, the tongue tacos, and the charcoal-grilled Caesar salad. Each dish was outstanding. For mains, we shared a beautifully cooked T-bone steak and an octopus risotto so good that we found ourselves picking every last bite from the bone.
To complement our meal, we tried a bottle of wine from San Luis Potosí, which paired wonderfully with the food—and at just ~600 pesos, it was an absolute steal. Fernando explained that the restaurant strives to remain accessible to both locals and visitors, a mission I truly admire.
With incredible food, warm hospitality, and unbeatable prices, Carranza 50 has earned a spot on my must-return list....
Read moreEnjoyed our light dinner, as we came mainly for the setting. The sopa champinones was a delicious vegetable combo, exactly what I was looking for. My husband savored his pollo en mole, beautifully presented with 3 layers of mole. The house salsitas that come with the bread, truly delicious and could be added to anything or eaten with their platano macho chips. Lovely rooftop setting, we were there for sunset timing- although it had just rained and was a bit cloudy. Still nice views in all directions. Our server Sergio was helpful explaining any questions about the menu, and is knowledgable on the drinks which helped us select what we really wanted. Overall we experienced a friendly hard working staff , would love to return and try other items...
