I went with a group of 6 people. Some of the foods we ordered included: shrimp stuffed avocado = This was amazing. It was so fresh, cooling and great flavours. garlic shrimp = I believe it came with 8 pieces of shrimp, a bit of rice and some cooked veggies. The sides aren’t listed on the menu, so that was a pleasant surprise. It’s definitely a nice light meal. The shrimp tasted very good and was cooked perfectly. shrimp tacos = My husband really enjoyed them. The shrimp were heavily breaded though. My husband didn’t mind, but a couple of my friends did remove the breading, as they felt that it would be too heavy on their stomach. (Personal choice of course). octopus in butter = The amount of octopus you get is great! Super meaty, and it was cooked very well. My friend wished she got the one with garlic instead. She felt it needed a little more seasoning. octopus with garlic = one of the girls ordered these, I can’t speak for her. But similar to above. fish tacos = one of the girls ordered this dish, can’t speak for her but I believe she was happy with them. They were also breaded.
Customer service was good. The server spoke a decent amount of English which was super helpful.
For 6 people, including appetizers, mains and drinks, it came to around 2200 pesos. We were super happy with the overall experience. I would recommend eating her versus on the beach. More of an...
Read moreEl Último Maya Hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of the Akumal Pueblo.
Marco the manager is a totally fascinating guy. Italian, he came to Mexico 4 years ago. He speaks fluent Italian, Spanish and English. He is a lot of fun to talk to and has a devoted circle of friends who come by the hotel to spend time with him.
He also is an extraordinary athlete who can be seen pushing his bicycle beyond all human limits up and down the hills around Akumal.
Maria the housekeeper is a tremendously sweet person who does wonderful work.
The rooms are all different and interesting. The one room I especially stayed in had a gorgeous mural of ocean life.
The hotel has a very sweet common area with beautiful plants and Mayan artifacts.
The beautiful Amumal Bay, wonderful for swimming, snorkeling and diving is an easy 20-minute walk downhill.
For the Riviera Maya, the price of the hotel is extremely competitive.
I recommend this hotel...
Read moreFirst things first, this isn't a 5-star resort. The room is very utilitarian. If you're traveling on a budget, it has everything you need -- a bed, AC, wifi, TV, hot water. Everything is clean. What really sets this place apart is how friendly the owner, Pablo is. I had a great time chatting with him, he patiently answered tons of questions, helped me figure out a song, and he helped me store my motorcycle. Secondly, this place is in the center of Akumal Pueblo, which is a little bit away from the beach. The difference is, this is a real Mexican town, whereas the playa is just another resort area. You'll find dollar tacos and street plantains and kids playing basketball across the street. If you want to find a really nice beach, not super crowded with tourists and hotel chairs and all that, head about 15 km to Xcacel, pay 84 pesos, and enjoy. I liked this place so much I...
