Our bungalow was one of eight (four duplexes) arranged around a patio like a Formative period village plan. We stayed for three nights. The first night I woke about 4 AM to hear water running. I got up (my roommate is deaf when he takes out his hearing aids at night) to take of it. But as soon as my feet hit the floor they were in water. Using my phone as a flashlight quickly discovered the problem was a leaking toilet tank. Easy fix right? Just reach down and turn off the water supply valve. In this case, wrong. The valve didn't have a handle and required a wrench to turn it. So I put a towel across the floor at the bathroom door to channel the leaking water into the shower. Then I walked up to the restaurant and bar complex to find a night watchman. He took the room number and told me to return and he'd send someone. Within a couple of minutes two workers (including the watchman) arrived at the room. They had a wrench and used a squeegee to return the water on the floor to the shower drain. In addition they returned and repaired the toilet when we were out for breakfast. Fast, quick, and efficient is my view of the staff. After the early morning adventure (that made an interesting breakfast story) we enjoyed the Club Akumal Caribe.

We usually rent a condo on Half Moon Bay. This is the 1st time in 30+ years we’ve stayed on Akumal Bay. We rented a bungalow (half a duplex), part of Villas Maya, owned by Hotel Akumal Caribe. It consisted of 1 room, king bed, full-size fridge (which broke, though was promptly replaced}, microwave, toaster over, 2-burner hot plate, coffee maker, kitchen sink, dining table. chairs, and bathroom0. We looked out on a courtyard of other duplexes, no sea view. But we were just behind Lo-Ha and the dive shop, so we were less than a minute from Akumal Bay, with no parking problems—and no all inclusive. Walk to several excellent restaurants and the Playa shops. All staff were masked for covid safety and guests were supposed to wear masks on property, too. All staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Linens, and kitchen supplies were sealed and safe. We shared an enclosed patio with the adjacent unoccupied duplex. We can't guarantee you an agouti or chachalaca bird, though we saw them daily from our room.

We would like to thank everyone at HAC for a wonderful visit! There are obviously so many choices in Riviera Maya second guessing is easy and we all hope for the best when booking a new experience. If you're looking for a Hotel without the all-inclusive vibe and 300 chairs and beach umbrellas packed together, this might be what you're looking for. It definitely was for us for our family of four! How often can you book a hotel that's 25 yards from the beach and only find a handful of people in the pool at a time? We had our choice of beautiful palapas everyday without a additional $100 fee. Rooms AND beds (pillows) were comfortable, the AC worked well, and the beach chairs were nicer than those at Secrets and Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness... both next door. Unlike those, HAC feels like a small, boutique, semi-private experience. Every employee we met was nicer than the next. We were greeted with smiles and excellent service at every turn. The front desk staff, the daily cleaning service workers, the beach service staff were all so kind and went out of their way to help with any requests. Management clearly knows how to hire people! ||Know what you're getting before you go at HAC. This isn't a fancy place, but everything was well appointed and clean, and if you're looking for a beachfront hotel and the opportunity to choose from different restaurants within a short walk, HAC is the best choice on Akumal. ||One thing to be aware of is that HAC offers you a food and beverage card for you to charge on... and it's not a room charge like I thought. At checkout you pay what you've spent on the cord in cash. I didn't understand this and not sure what the advantage is to then pay with cash... as they didn't mention any associated discount. It was easier just to pay by CC at Lol-Ha (the beach restaurant). Not a bit thing but I didn't want to use an ATM if I could help it. ||So thank you again to everyone at HAC, and we hope we're able to...

I have been going to Mexico frequently since 2007 and I have been fishing at the Akumal Dive Shop on multiple occasions. I have usually stayed at one of the larger Hotels in the hotel zone and I have always travelled to Akumal for my fishing trips. I have always wanted to stay at Hotel Akumal Caribe due to its close proximity to the Dive shop, for this trip I was travelling alone so I only had my individual needs to satisfy. I was not disappointed, I arrived at about 8-30 pm local time and I was very tired after a long flight from the UK. initially I was surprised at the accommodation but after a good nights sleep followed by a really hearty breakfast I had the the chance to take a good look around and I was absolutely delighted about where I was located, in the Buddha garden which was really peaceful and relaxing. I am almost 70 and disabled, so being in a bungalow was absolutely perfect for me, I was able to spend a lot of time meditating and had more than enough space to go through my daily routine stretching and mobility exercises. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and were even able to provide an adjustable shower seat for me to use for the duration of my stay. I did not fully explore the hotel facilities while I was there on this visit, but the close proximity to the beach, the dive shop and the restaurants was perfect. I have already booked my flights for next year and I will be contacting the hotel soon to book my accommodation...

Hotel Akumal Caribe is a real treasure. It is not new, it is not fancy, it is not splashy. It is the oldest hotel in the area with the absolute best location in the Akumal area. It sits right on the bay where the turtles live. Everyone sees turtles when they snorkel there. Lots of people arrive during the day for snorkeling and diving, but after hours it is quiet and serene (and I was there Christmas week!) |The two restaurants on site are excellent. One is open for breakfast and the other opens at 11:00am and stays open until 9:00. The food and service at both is top notch. |I also came to appreciate the management at Akumal Caribe. They are extremely responsive to any needs that arise. We had a leak in the bathroom and it was fixed within hours of reporting it. They have a tour desk and will help you secure whatever tours, rides, or local information you need. |If you are looking for pampering and luxury, look down the road at the many all-inclusive resorts and fancy accommodations (at 3x the price). If you want a laid-back, quiet vacation, this is the place. Although Akumal is a bit isolated from the rest of the Riviera Maya, there were several additional small restaurants just across the street from the hotel and between the onsite dining and the three other restaurants, we had all we needed for 10...
