It is the best food!!! Sid ordered the steak and shrimp! Beautiful on the plate and delicious going down!!! I had the chicken spinach corn cream sauce .... WOW!!! Loved the chips they give you!!! Chef did a great job! Waiters were very sweet. We knew no Spanish and they could talk some English!! But we all could communicate!!!! Were very patient with us!!!! Will go back there again! Eating outside like that...on the beach and with an iguana and birds!!!!!! LOVE IT HERE!!!!!! We did go back!!! The filet mignon was to die for!!!! The chef had just created a beautiful dish. It was pan fried grouper, prawn on top with a chocolate lace disc for background and surrounding this was mussels in a creamy curry sauce!!! ART!!!!!! Hats Off To The Chef!!! Sweet guy!! Iguanas like his food too!! Do not feed them like Sid did!! The iguana decided to jump in my plate!! Thank you Waiter for saving my food as I was getting him off table!!!! What an experience!!! Loved it!!!!!!!!!!! BACK IN MAY 2023!!!! Sid had the goat cheese and chicken, spinach cream sauce. Still delicious!! I tried the Mayan blackened beef cooked under ground. It was all meat surrounded by a sweet beet sauce!! Great! Really really full!!!!! Of course the iguanas greeted us! Of course we fed them!!!

I couldn't decide between the grilled tuna or the Mayan beef, but ultimately went with the Mayan beef because I figured it was more unique than grilled tuna. It was excellent. Savory, with the texture of pulled pork, and salty, but not too salty. My wife had paella. I sampled it and it was also good. My father-in-law had the beef burger, and said it was amongst the best he's ever had! It looked good, and after his endorsement, that's what I'll have next time! We ordered to go, but were offered any seat available while we waited for our food to be prepared. We enjoyed our few minutes in the beach dining area and the people around us also seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were staying only about 300 meters away, so we walked in from the street and walked back via the beach! (The pic is from the beach, not the restaurant property) I'd recommend based on my experience!

The restaurant opens at 01:00PM. We arrived at the restaurant around 12:30. We saw the manager behind his bar and asked him if we could wait on the restaurant's terrace until it opened. The manager was very unpleasant and wouldn't let us wait on the terrace until the restaurant opened. I've never seen anyone who isn't commercial like that. You can tell it's not his restaurant and he doesn't give a damn. For less than 30 minutes he wasn't able to tell us yes, don't worry, you can wait here or on the beach for the kitchen to open. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all, because the staff are not competent, not commercial, not friendly. We're not tourists because we live in the area, so I strongly advise against this restaurant for tourists because it offers no service. I've never seen this kind of attitude on the Mayan Riviera.

Along with Taverna, La Lunita has some of the finer food that you can find in Akumal, with prices to match. It's quite a small place at the north end of Half Moon Bay, occupying the beachfront terrace of a condo building, with some limited interior space. (Once the light fades, it could really use some subtle outdoor illumination so you can at least read the menu.)

The local ingredients can be relatively exotic -- like my grilled Hogfish, served with a sweet-and-spicy sauce, which was excellent -- but dishes are not always well conceived. One of our party had the expensive Shrimp Pad Thai and found it cloyingly sweet. When we shared crispy chocolate fudge for a dessert, we at least expected overwhelming sweetness.

This place is definitely a few notches up from La Buena Vida at the other end of the bay, and there's much more care to the food than you'll find at the overpriced Lol Ha on Akumal Beach. We're looking forward to sampling a bigger range of La Lunita's menu in the...

WOW! Don’t let your all inclusive hotel stop you from experiencing this fine dining AND budget friendly restaurant.

Fine dining beach side. Our table had the grilled octopus with grilled vegetables, vegan chile relleno, and tortilla soup. All were excellent. The octopus was very tender and cooked perfectly, which takes more time than one might think! You can’t just, “grill it up”, like you can every other type of fish, chicken, or beef. There were so many dishes on the menu I wanted to order. I ordered the grilled octopus because it is a rare opportunity. Glad I did!

The staff was the most patient with my indecisiveness that I have come across anywhere, especially in Mexico. All of the servers worked to ensure our fine dining experience exceeded any persnickety diner’s expectations.

I also couldn’t believe how low our bill was. The same experience would have been 3x the amount in the US. There are tables in the sand and in the building. It is peaceful, romantic and good...
