My recent visit to Tzonot was far from what I had hoped for. I had ordered the Beef Barbacoa - Barbacoa de res tacos with high expectations, but my experience fell short.
Firstly, there was a notable absence of the usual table sauces that are expected with tacos. I had to request them, which was a bit disappointing.
The main letdown, however, was the tacos themselves. The beef was unseasoned and lacked any flavor, and I noticed that some of the listed ingredients, such as chickpeas, were missing from my dish. When I brought this to the female manager's attention, she offered a mere 10% off the bill, which I felt was insufficient given the disappointing meal.
What further added to my disappointment was that I had a voucher for an additional 10% off, which I wanted to apply. The manager refused, citing that I already had 10% off due to their error. This felt unfair, especially since the initial discount was issued because of their mistake.
To make matters worse, the female manager implied that I was an exception, stating that "everyone who orders tacos here loves them." This response felt dismissive and unprofessional.
I left Alea feeling not only unsatisfied with the meal but also with the way the situation was handled by the manager. I had expected a better experience, and unfortunately, I won't...
Read moreMy husband and I went here twice during our stay at a hotel down the road. First time we got a burger and a quesadilla to go; service and food were both great. The waiter on Tuesday night was amicable, as was the bartender. They also informed us about Manchas, the dog from next door that likes to visit.
Saturday night was a different story. Bartender was the same and still great, but wait staff was disorganized for our dine in experience. My husband ordered in fluent Spanish, so that wasn't the issue. It felt like the server that took our order didn't know the menu. I ordered the Tres Queso Raviolis with shrimp, my husband got the barbacoa. We ordered empanadas to share. Contrary to what you might think the ravioli didn't have three cheeses; there were just three ravioli about the size of my palm. Not worth the price. Although the empanadas were supposed to be an appetizer, we didn't find out until after our entrees arrived that they did not have them. We got the soft shell crab tacos instead, and those were delicious as was the barbacoa. The prices here are also dispoportionate for what you get; we sent the same on a night out with drinks in Tulum Centro. Overall this place could be great if they refined their menu and worked on...
Read moreIn short, a wildly overpriced and mediocre meal. Servers were very friendly but not very attentive. Meals were a disappointment. The pibil and mole were good. But one of our dishes did not arrive. The rest came out slowly and at different times. The burger we ordered well done for a child was almost raw. The bill was high even if you were at a pricey restaurant in US. Overall a...
