Let me start off by saying that this review has absolutely nothing to do with their pastries whatsoever. Going purely for pastries and coffee, I actually would highly recommend this little spot or the maple bake house that they have closer to the center. We were staying approximately four blocks away and we would go for pastries and coffee for two straight weeks. However, we would dread the visit there every single time after the first visit because of the service unfortunately. Every time we would come in the same baristas would be there and for some reason unbeknownst to us, we seemed like we were inconveniencing them! My wife and niece are from Mexico, and for some reason it seems like they would roll their eyes and sigh and mutter under their breath which I did not believe at all when I was told the second time. So I went the third trip, then the fourth, and the fifth, and by God it was true … I initially brushed it off but it is incredibly clear they treat domestic customers differently than international ones. I don’t find that assuming at all. At the very minimum decently polite service for all customers, not just the international ones.
We would also ask for our pastries to be warmed up, which I genuinely believe is a normal request for a bakery, my wife, and then me were met with rolled eyes and a very skewed smirk! Sorry!
We, on every occasion, are always polite, respectful, and kind to every single person we come in context with. We are the type of people that clean up our table, “say good morning”, “how are you”, and are genuinely courteous. So it’s odd not to be met with that at a bakery!!!! Supposedly one of the happiest places on earth!!!
And honestly I thought I was siding with my wife and my niece, on several occasions. During my month stay we sat inside 3 times and noticed it was with several customers. So it’s just a general bad attitude. Which is incredibly unfortunate.
Do I think their pastries and coffee are horrible? No absolutely not. I actually think they are some of the best on the island. If not the best. But their barista’s attitudes stink pretty badly. Hope they read this and take it as a positive to improve. This is not enough to dissuade us from going, but definitely something that could be improved...
Read moreGenius bakery. Genuinely. Now, it also is the most expensive bread you’ll eat in the whole island. Its a café type place (not unlike starbucks if you want something to compare it against) but unlike starbucks they seek to excel mostly in their pastries and bread. And they do it greatly, you can tell someone who is passionate and knows about baking is making their pastries, they like to use nutella a lot, which honestly might not be that great but i personally find myself to be addicted to that substance so i find no problem with that. That being said, its not a “traditional” mexican bakery, rather it is a mimic of what a “european-type bakery” is supposed to be (at least in what they sell), and that, and their quality makes them able to sell a single pastry for above $50 pesos. To get my point across, any traditional mexican pastry in some other “panaderia” can cost you 6 times less than that. Is it worth it? Maybe, and the middle class and tourist costumers who you’ll undoubtedly find here possibly attest to that. They have seating outside the place so you can whip out your MacBook and pretend you’re working like so many people here do. Overall the pastries are extremely good, the place looks nice and clean, but i honestly find difficult to want to pay more than $60MX for a nutella roll despite...
Read moreThis place was recommended by our masseuse and she was spot on! There are two different locations and this was the closer one in proximity. They have a lovely panaderia (which are not as common on the island unfortunately). The coffee was excellent and I throughly enjoyed my hazelnut cressant. This interior is so nicely done, great ambiance and there were three baristas all running to get our order filled! I also highly...
