The dining room is as dark as a cinema, but without the entertainment. Good luck coming in from the bright afternoon sunlight, and not tripping down the stairs, or over a chair, table, or fellow patron. The menu is uninventive; just the usual Mazatlán fare. The food was equally average (although the prices sure weren't!). I had lukewarm (and flavorless) soppa de tortilla, fajitas drowning in juices, and a ⁸ridiculously TINY amount of salsa with my chips...which is hard to fix because they insist on a silly (and time-consuming) process of making your (bland) salsa "à la minute" tableside...probably to generate tips. The staff are overly solicitous (in an intrusive and annoying way); obviously to emulate what they INCORRECTLY perceive as "fine dining." Hey, it's a tourist joint; no one's expecting fine dining. This is just a cheap way to justify excessive prices, and again...TIPS. A more costly way would be to use quality ingredients and well-trained/experienced kitchen staff to serve good food. Yet, after finishing my meal, having my dishes cleared, and declining a dessert or after-dinner drink, I waited a ridiculously long time to FIND a server to bring me the bill. So much for "overly-solicitous." This a great place for people who think a $5 can of beans at Whole Foods is better than a $1...
Read moreWe had dinner here last night, and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The younger kids thoroughly enjoyed having access to a play area rather than having to sit quietly and listen to “boring grown-up talk.” We were offered very helpful recommendations on the regular menu and the wine selection. We celebrated a birthday while here, and our daughter enjoyed the lively song and having her name on the TV screen. The food was incredible! Most impressive, though, was the way a food allergy (nursing baby, FPIES cow’s milk protein- she reacts to even cross-contact in mom’s diet) was handled. Christian, our waiter, checked our selections (surf&turf from adult menu, caldo de pollo from kids menu) with the chef to ensure they were/could be made allergy-safe, and the chefs took precautions against cross contact. He also brought out a separate plate of chips with bean dip without cheese, without us having to request it. Little details like that are reassuring for worried moms of allergic kids :) It’s now the next day, no allergy symptoms, and life is good. I have to say (and I will, repeatedly, to anyone who will listen!) this is my #1 recommendation for a dinner out with family in Mazatlán, especially if you have an allergy concern and want staff that are understanding and...
Read moreLa Casa Country is the steak house in Mazatlán. It has a great country theme, they play country music and the decor is straight up rancher. The menu is large without being to big and they provide a lot options for all types of diners. Whether you want a steak, fish, chicken or a classic Mexican enchilada. They have it all, plus dessert. The staff is very attentive and the drinks are made well. They do get 3 stars for the following reasons: 1. They got our order wrong, the appatizers I ordered didn't come out and when dinner did come out, they gave my wife the wrong dish. Chicken fajitas instead of the chicken enchiladas, which was still very tasty but nonetheless wrong. Also, the fajitas didn't come with guacamole so we needed to order that extra, very strange. Finally, despite the ribeye steak being very flavorful, it was on the thinner side and despite being cooked medium rare like I ordered, it was still a bit dry. There are better steaks to be had in Mazatlan. All in all, the dinner was good, the ambiance was great, I would go back, but not for a steak. I recommend La Casa Country for a great experience, as long as you are ok with food that may not be the...
