It is impossible to begin to explain the experience at this horrible place. On the outside, this establishment appears to be a "high-end, fine dining" experience, but it is thousands of miles far from being one. This place is terrible, that I am trying to erase the experience from my memories. We had a reservation at 7 pm, for which we arrived 15 mins early, and we were offered our table at 7:30 pm. After being at our table for 20 mins, the waiter finally brought us water and asked us if we were ready to order. The waiter asked nothing else other than what our order was. He did not get any bread to our table; we had to ask for it. We ended up placing our order for appetizers and main course meal; we ordered spinach Fritters and Fried Octopus as appetizers. The Spinach Fritters were not fresh; they looked like they had been sitting under a plate warmer for quite some time; as for the fried octopus, that looked okay. Between the delivery of the appetizer and the main course, 56 mins went by. During this time, the waiter did not check on us, didn't bring us water refills, nor gave us any updates on our food. As we sat there, I grew more and more impatient about the situation (I am a teacher, and patience is my friend) since I noticed our waiter, Juan, taking care of two big parties diligently and ignored us completely. Maybe he thought that the tip would be more prominent there, so he shifted his to those two tables.
SO, after 56 minutes, I stook, and I went to speak to the manager. I was "greeted" by the rudest, most indifferent, and exacerbating individual I have ever come across. I told him about my experience, asked him to cancel my order that I wanted to leave. He claimed that my order ready and there was nothing he could do about it. I swallowed my anger, went back to my table, and indeed, my food was already by my table. BUT IT WAS DELIVERED COLD! I asked the expo to bag the food, as I had no plans on consuming the meals there. As I requested food to be placed in to-go containers, I could not help but notice that someone was positioned by the door and looked directly at us. I assume that this bleached blond woman was sent by the manager to the door to "prevent" from leaving without paying. As if anyone could've stopped me if I wanted to go. However, I have class and morals, and even if the service was terrible, I was not going to leave an establishment without covering my bill.
I never received an apology for this treatment or any sense of caring from anyone in that establishment. As I mentioned prior, this has been by far the worse experience I have had, and I have traveled extensively across the globe. Yet, I have been treated better while eating street tacos than at this horrible, despicable place.
Do not waste your money, and save yourself from wasting a special occasion at this dungeon. If I could give not even one...
Read moreBefore you make it here we highly recommend you call for reservations and be sure to wear a mask or you will be turned away. Or be asked to come back with mask. Temperature are taken before entering. Now to the good part. Food was delicious!! Everything was cooked an season to perfection. And reasonable prices. However my only reason for my 4 star and not a five star just felt like service lacked a bit. Just felt rushed!! I asked for a Pina colada with alcohol and it just seem to have tasted exactly one my young daughter order (minor). Waitress said because It was sweet I wouldn't taste it. I've had my plenty of Pina coladas taste in my life and by far they all always taste the alcohol or at least a kick to it. If this place is known for great steakhouse why would the alcohol drinks be any less value or lack flavor. Waitress knew about the drink and did nothing or offer to better the quality of the drink. Perhaps because we came on a late Saturday evening it felt rushed. And another note if temperature are taken and turning some people away (happen while waiting for our turn) for not having mask please waiters wear your mask right!! A few of the waiters had them below their nose. Just my thoughts and observations. Because of the quality of the food we will be back a different time and give it another chance. Hoping Garufa doesn't disappoint and change my 4 star to a 5.
I'm not against mask. The point to my review was that if your front desk required customers to wear mask as indicated by law why are the same rules/restrictions not applicable to your waiters/waitress. Make them wear the mask appropriately not below the nose. It's possible they fall below for a few seconds but not all the entire time I was dinning. Two of your servers had them below the nose. All I was observing was a double standard. Wishing the best to you and the restaurant.
Came back mid week and Juan are waiter gets a 5 star. He was very attentive and patient. Thank you for being honest and catching up to us outside when we left to return...
Read moreWe went to the Garufa Steak House, located on Sandy Beach next to Changas, yesterday for the first time. It was a wonderful surprise and a delightful experience. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a Hostess who asked if we were dining or would prefer the bar. We were planning to have a glass of wine (their wine selection is awesome) and an appetizer, so we opted for the bar. We were seated immediately.
Garufas is a brand new restaurant in Puerto Peñasco. The lighting in the bar and restaurant area is very soothing. The bar area is clean and sparkling and offers a view into the kitchen. Garufas has a real Wine Celler, that insures that their wines are chilled to the proper temperature. They have an extensive wine selection and offer wines from the Valle de Guadalupe in Ensenada, Argentina and Spain. We selected a bottle of Norton Malbec from Argentina. The bottle was presented to us, then opened and poured for a tasting. It was a perfect temperature and delicious. Since we were only going to have an appetizer, we asked our waiter what he would suggest. He suggested a Beet Salad plate with chilled pickled beets that were sprinkled with goat cheese and walnuts. It was delicious! When that plate was finished, we perused the menu for another appetizer and selected the Char-Broiled Bone Marrow plate. Oh My Goodness, it was delicious! The plate had four large bones that had been cut in half. They were char-broiled and their aroma was heavenly. The plate also came with a delicious smoked salsa and small corn tortillas. This dish was excellent and there was so much food, we were unable to eat the last bone. It is highly recommended.
OVERALL: We really enjoyed our first visit to Garufas. The staff was very well trained, bi-lingual and quite friendly. The prices were very reasonable and we plan to return for a full dinner in the future. Our suggestion to you if you haven't visited Garufas yet: “Try it,...
