Mercado San Carlos — Restaurant in Sonora

A Mexican take on food markets popular in recent years in the US. There are 4 or 5 separate vendors that provide food and drinks but we didn’t understand Thai until we had placed our order. The menu you will receive at the table encompasses all of the vendors and the friendly waiters are knowledgeable about all of the different providers. You can ignore the different vendors and just think of it as a very diverse menu.

The oysters were small and leaned into the pricing category you might find in San Luis ibis o but it’s pretty easily overlooked because the space is very well appointed and it feels fun.

Lobster tacos were excellent

I think of it as a synthesis between tequila and mezcal. It’s Smokey, like mezcal, but smooth and clean and boozy...

We ordered a pizza. It took almost 1 hr for them to prepare our 1 pizza because a bigger group of customers arrived after us and the restaurant prioritized their orders over ours. Until the end, 2 other tables that arrived after us had some of their food ready and we still had nothing. We ordered 2 tacos in the last 15 minutes because the server said they take less time to prepare and we were starving. 100 pesos per taco. It was just fried shrimp and cheese. It was very oily (oil was dripping from it), tasted too fishy and didn’t have good seasoning. Anyone could make better tacos at home. Never going back here again to wait 1 hour for overpriced...

FOOD ZERO STARS!! SERVICE THE WORST EXPERIENCE IN SAN CARLOS! Don't bother the food takes forever! We waited for over an hour for them to bring the food out and it was only one plate at a time. The food had no flavor and could not find a waiter to ask for salt. Two of us asked for tacos and they brought out a plate with vegetables and a few pieces of chicken. We hated the service and could not even find the waiter to get a check and get out of this...
