The entrance into the restaurant is like entering into a cave. We got there around 1:30 pm on a Saturday. The way there was a bit tricky, around small, narrow streets, but Google Maps was a big help. At the time we arrived to the restaurant there were plenty of parking spots, even though the parking lot is pretty small. When we were leaving around 3 pm, there were no parking spots available and more and more people were pulling up. Our arrival time was very fortunate, not just because we were able to park without problems, but because we got to see all three live performances during our meal. I don't know if it's true for the daily routine, but when we visited they rotated in the following order: ancient Aztec dance and drums, Mariachi, Chilean traditional dance. It was a lovely entertainment. Our table was situated directly across the entrance, at en elevation, about halfway up the stairs. We had a perfect view of the stage. The service was very courteous and professional. The food presentation was lovely. The food was good, but not exceptional, the atmosphere made up for the rest of it. There were three of us and our final bill with the 10% tip was close to 3,000 pesos. We had a bit of food left over to take home. We ordered a couple of mojitos, a jar of Jamaica and a glass of horchata for our drinks. All the drinks were tasty and fresh, but pretty standard. We shared a bowl of sopa de milpa with rich flavor and veggies. For the main course we ordered Molcajete Tlalocan, a collection of different cuts of meat, with veggies, which were finished up with a mezcal set on fire table side. A lovely presentation, meat was tasty, not overcooked, but fairly standard. Overall, a wonderful,...
Read moreFood was delicious, BUT I don't like being treated like a fool. Everything went well until receiving a bill. We ordered 4 dishes + 1 for sharing + 4 drinks. Then we saw that one of the dishes on the bill was different than we ordered (and more expensive 500+ MXN instead of 200+ MXN). We asked what it is and we were told that this is one of the dishes we received, but not ordered. Mistakes happens and we asked for billing us for what we ordered not what we got (we were not able to tell if received dish had been something else from what we ordered when getting the dishes - a lot of ingredients were the same in both dishes as we checked later and after all we do not know the way of serving mexican food. In this case Platillo Mexicana). I speak simple Spanish and as far as I understood the waiter told us that he could not change the bill when it had been already printed. We ask our Mexican friend, who was dining at different table to help us in communication. Then after short discussion they have changed our bill to proper one.
Not 100% sure, but it seems that they do not care about tourists, because like me, most likely they won't return to this restaurant after all and maybe they try to take advantage of non-spanish speakers as it is difficult to prove your rigths.
Ps. It ruined our experience there after all, but beside that the location and food were...
Read moreI hate having high expectations for places and this was one of them. The pictures look so beautiful! We arrived and the setting is quite stunning, tables arranged around a center platform inside of a cave with a skylight. The service was quite good, courteous and prompt delivery. The food was not so great. My prime rib had little seasoning and a sparse side of two pieces broccoli, 2 slices of carrots and a little cup of potatoes. The guacamole with chicharrón was fine, though the chicharrón (pork rinds) seemed stale. The botano (?) plate was alright. It all was just okay. Really, it is all hype. Yet another tourist trap in the vicinity of the pyramids. The entertainment swings around all the tables asking for tips. We got a pre-hispanic dance troupe of three, followed by a mariachi band that was just okay as well, also asking for tips. When you are sitting down eating and people are coming to you for tips in rounds, it makes the food a little less appealing. I couldn’t wait to get out of there, before another round of “entertainment”came to clip more money...
