When we arrived at the restaurant, the waiter came before we were seated and asked the race of my family and group of friends. After hearing our race, he said there was no seat for us. However, when we checked the restaurant, we saw that there were empty seats inside and outside, so the restaurant might treat you based on your nationality and racistly kick you out of the restaurant.
Arrangement
Thank you for your detailed response. However, we feel it’s important to correct several misrepresentations and share our experience more clearly.
At no point during our visit were we informed that a table would be available in an hour. Had that been communicated clearly and respectfully, we would have happily considered waiting or making a reservation for later. Instead, we were told the restaurant was fully booked, with no indication of future availability — and certainly not in the kind and accommodating tone you now describe.
What made the experience particularly uncomfortable was that the first thing we were asked — before being offered any help or information — was about our nationality. This did not come across as an attempt to better explain the cuisine. When someone is immediately asked, “Where are you from?” and then told “we are full,” it feels far from welcoming. It is inappropriate and dismissive to lead a conversation in that way, especially when there are other ways to communicate fully booked status without personal assumptions.
Moreover, your response here comes across as defensive rather than empathetic. A simple apology — even for a misunderstanding or unintended tone — would have gone much further than trying to discredit what we felt. A guest’s perception matters, and it’s disappointing that this response focused more on defending your reputation than addressing how we were made to feel.
For further clarity: we actually returned to the restaurant later that evening — not to dine, but to calmly speak to the manager and express our concerns in a constructive, non-confrontational way. We were assisted by another waiter who was extremely supportive and understanding, which we appreciated. We also saw the original waiter again — Ismet, who, as it turns out, is Turkish — and we asked him directly why he had acted the way he did. Rather than clarifying or apologising, he became defensive and abruptly walked away.
To have faced that initial treatment, followed by an aggressive denial and still not to receive any form of apology from your management — despite our effort to approach the matter respectfully — has left us feeling disappointed and unheard.
Unfortunately, your current response seems to confirm that we do not share the same understanding of what occurred. While we appreciate your effort to respond, we believe hospitality requires more than good intentions — it requires accountability, humility, and a willingness to listen, even when feedback is...
Read moreGenuinely such a shame to be welcomed with utter rudeness in such a highly rated restaurant that promises the best of service.
There were two of us, we sat down at one of the tables and were not noticed for 15 minutes. One of us goes in to let the staff know we are sat outside, and the waiter excuses himself. The waiter goes on to tend to another table, staring at our table on his way to them. He slowly makes his way to us after another 5 minutes of waiting, hands empty, stops next to our table and simply stares at us in silence for a few seconds. He manages to eventually utter "How can I help you?" and we ask for menus. He supposes we will only have drinks. He slowly turns around and leaves with a smirk on his face, and enters the restaurant once again, passing the spot where the menus were placed. We decided to get up and leave.
It is apparent that Bokka Modern's supposed exquisite brand fails to attain consistency in terms of customer service.
To the manager, would you please be so kind to look who was on shift at the time of this review? The waiter seems to need another round of customer service training. Or maybe such behavior might have a place in luxury spots, though certainly not the ones we have visited...
Read moreHad the best time at Bokka. I made a reservation and the hostess and all the staff greeted me by name. They were very friendly and welcoming. My waitress (Dijana) in particular was super personable and made the best recommendations. Service was amazing and attentive - cannot rate them highly enough. It started to spit slightly and someone came and opened umbrellas just incase.
Food wise - it was delicious. I had the Cevapi which is a local dish and it was lovely. However, however, the bread was hands down some of the best bread I’ve ever eaten. Had to ask for some to take away. Wine list looked reasonably priced and the local Chardonnay was delicious. Desert options were offered verbally (had the chocolate cake which was good). Had a complimentary digestif as well. All in - I thoroughly enjoyed my evening here.
Atmosphere wise - had some good music that wasn’t too loud. Outdoor sitting was comfortable and delightful. Have some extra seating by the water but sat on the terrace outside the restaurant with mood lighting. See photos.
They are still new and finding their feet. Bathrooms need a little more work but were clean. I would highly recommend this lovely restaurant as a place...
