My husband and I had been traveling through Southern Africa for over a month when we landed in Windhoek and were delighted to see the number of craft beer places to explore. We first ventured to Joe’s Beer House, which was excellent—fairly priced and offering delicious beer coupled with a fabulous atmosphere.
The following day, we decided to visit the Roof of Africa, and to say we were bitterly disappointed is an understatement. Upon arrival, the staff were rude and unwelcoming. When we tried to order a beer, we asked for a small taste, like in any normal brew house, to decide which beer we wanted 500ml of. We were curtly told this was not allowed.
Having visited brew houses across the world, it’s normal practice to allow small 10ml tastes before choosing a large beer, as 500ml is a lot to consume if you don’t like it.
The takeaway from this review is that there are many fantastic places to visit that are run like proper beer houses and also have staff that know what they’re doing. Unfortunately, the Roof of Africa is not...
Read moreRoof of Africa used to be known to serve amazing buffets, which included a great selection of Namibian meats, as well as salads and desserts, perfect to take down with a cold beer from their on-site brewery. Unfortunately this is definitely not the case anymore. We went there for our year-end function in December 2021, and more recently for a private dinner, and both times we were highly disappointed in the downgrade of standard, not only when it comes to the selection of food, but also the availability and the long wait to be served (there was one person to serve a queue of about 20-30 HUNGRY people). The quality of the food is not what it used to be, the meat was dry and overcooked and the options very limited, which makes the buffet highly overpriced. Will not be going back there. Can't say much about the hotel itself, except that it's housed in a very nice building, with intricate woodwork – the roof is especially worth looking at (even more so because the food isn't worth...
Read moreI stayed at Roof of Africa for a week. It’s a beautiful place and has the best virgin Piña colada😋! However, for someone who had to eat there breakfast, lunch and dinner, it was very disappointing 😣. The buffet breakfast is cold, no variety from day to day so I was eating mostly the same thing everyday. Buffet Lunch look very much like dinner, which was mostly the same dishes the whole week. There are no condiments. Expect a majority of the meat to not be cooked properly. I have experienced this a lot in Windhoek. You chew on your meat for days😅
My room was serviced by someone who didn’t bother to properly make the bed up . She literally just straightened up the duvet and covered my pillow as it was. No fluffing it out, no putting out the rest of the pillows to make it look nice again. 😮💨
Overall it was a good experience. The reception staff were very helpful in helping us get our missing bags from the...
