Restaurant Bakboord — Restaurant in Almere

Took my husband to this restaurant for his birthday. It is a very nice restaurant on a great location on the water at Almere-Haven. Staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was good. With regards to dinner we chose the chefs suggestion menu, where you tell them what you don’t like and they will surprise you with 6 different courses. I listed the 3 things I don’t like, but I forgot there was a 4th....tofu...I really don’t like tofu but as most restaurants don’t have it in their menus I didn’t expect it. When I was at the second dish with tofu I had to ask if more was coming but luckily enough not. They can’t do anything about me not liking it, although finding the same dominant ingredient in two courses one after another is not much of a surprise for a surprise menu. The rest of the food was nice but the beef strips on the main course were like chewing gum and the dish not very exciting. Apart from that I still score them high as the staff, location and experience were good and we all have a hit and miss every now and then, but it didn’t...

We’ve been going to Bakboord for years and are never disappointed. It’s only now after trying another fine dining restaurant (only because Bakboord was booked out) and discussing how much better Bakboord is that I realise I’ve never given a review here. Bakboord is in a great location with a beautiful view over the harbour. The staff are warm and welcoming and often remember us even if we haven’t managed to get back for months. The food is always incredible. Each dish impresses first with the presentation and then the delicious balance of flavours and textures. They are great at accommodating a gluten free diet. When we arrived we were very happy with the service, the very pleasant atmosphere, large tables, comfortable chairs. We ordered the 6 course Chef's menu, I felt like I was in a master chef show on television. The presentation of the food was wonderful, the taste was fantastic, the wine selection very good, but at the same time it was like playing house with my great-niece, the portions were tiny, but really very, very small. The wait between one meal and another was long. The dessert was such a shame it was so small, I could barely taste it. That was disappointing. But the service...
