What a fantastic experience at Indian Taj Mahal Tandoori and Sweets in Alphen aan den Rijn! My wife and I enjoyed a delicious 3-course dinner yesterday, and I can confidently say it was a full-blown flavor explosion from start to finish.

We kicked things off with crispy papadums, served with a spicy mint sauce and a heavenly mango chutney – finger-licking good! The main course was a feast in itself: tender charcoal-grilled chicken, an irresistibly creamy chicken tikka masala, and a surprisingly flavorful vegetable curry (the name escapes me, but the taste definitely doesn’t!).

And then came dessert... My wife had a perfect combo of pistachio and mango ice cream – fresh, rich, and the ideal finish to our meal. I went for the classic gulab jamun: warm, sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

The service was incredibly friendly and attentive – we truly felt welcome. This place is a hidden gem in Alphen aan den Rijn, and we will definitely be back. Five stars...

I purchased two vouchers for the 3-course chef’s menu via Social Deal. The price was very reasonable, so I wasn’t expecting anything fancy—just decent quality. We’ve eaten here several times before and always enjoyed it, especially the butter chicken and lamb curry.

Unfortunately, this time was a huge disappointment. • The tandoori chicken was overcooked and dry. • The butter chicken, which used to be a highlight, was surprisingly bland and overly sweet—I’ve never had sweet butter chicken before, and it just didn’t work. • The mixed vegetable curry tasted like frozen vegetables in a thin, flavorless sauce—lacking salt and any distinctive spices.

I understand a chef’s menu might be designed to keep costs low, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of authentic flavor. Indian curry dishes are known for their rich taste and aroma, and sadly none of that was present this time.

We’ve ordered from Taj Mahal on Uber Eats before, but this time we decided to come to the restaurant. The food was tasty and well-served, and the spicy mint sauce was delicious! It was our first time trying it, and we loved it.

The staff was friendly, and the service was quick. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace by the canal, and the overall experience was great.

We highly recommend it and will definitely return to try more dishes...
