We came with my wife and two kids and a bunch of friends with kids as well. We ordered food/drinks and sat outside. They said the waiting time for pannenkoeken is 30-45 minutes but we didn't mind. Note however that they do not serve tap water and there are signs everywhere that you are not allowed to bring your own food or drinks. I'm not sure if that applies to water as well but we ran out anyway and had to buy water for 9€/liter.
After eating, the kids went to play and enjoy the playground. Suddenly our daughter started throwing a tantrum and screaming. We were constantly with her and tried to calm her but she kept screaming loudly. We moved her gently to a bench that was in the open space and a guy showed up behind us and started giving her orders: "stop crying" - "shhhh". I didn't want to make a scene so I simply ignored him. He left mumbling "Jesus Christ just take her". My wife picked her up and carried her screaming to our bike outside the place. I went to pick up our stuff. I noticed the guy sitting behind the counter - he was part of the staff. On my way out I said to him, as gently as I could: "next time mind your own business". He replied: "this is my business - I have people here". I asked: "Is this an adult only place?". Same response: "this is my business". Well, at least now I know. This is NOT a friendly place for MY kids. Make of that what you will.
To be clear, I wouldn't mind if he came and tried to smooth things out. Instead he didn't even talk to us and started ordering my screaming daughter to stop crying and screaming. In my books, that's unacceptable - especially from someone who claims "this is...
Read moreIt's a nice place to go inside the forest. Especially with nice weather. A good place for families with kids. They have a mini farm, a play ground for children (not very suitable for babies) and a terrace outside. You can also sit inside of the restaurant. It is an open buffet and they make very good pancakes! The staff is very friendly. The lady at the cash deck (I think she was the owner or the wife of the owner) was was very patient and helpful to the customer in front of me. The man who worked in the kitchen was really nice and helpful as well.
The only thing was that it is not clear where to order your pancakes as there were no signs. Some people kept looking and waiting around (the buffet area is not that big) not knowing where to get pancakes. Maybe they can put some clear signs showing people where to go so they can have a better flow. So pancakes you can order at the cash deck and you will get a receipt which you bring to the kitchen. They will give you a device so you can sit and wait until the device ligthen up and vibrates. So you know you can pick up your order.
Would definitely recommend this place...
Read moreThe place is organised for tourist... It is a self service and the pannenkoeken for which we went especially for is a full disappointment. Instead of cooking it in real pan they are using a kind of pizza turn over oven like in pizza hut or Domino's pizza... The ingredients used are not the premium ones: ham cut in tiny little pieces of few mm , cheese not melting (they were grilled from the weird oven- almost carbonised) and tasted like plastic...the dessert looked nice but we did not dare to take any from the first very bad impression we had from the pannenkoeken...the price is outraging as we had much better and bigger for a cheaper price (go to oudt Leyde in case you are in Leiden). The children park is ok and the deers are nice to see even though their park is very limited ...i.e they are in a small closed area rather than being in the nature kind of... It does not feel natural at all but more for the business attraction...in a word really not the effort to travel up to there to eat.... Maybe for a coffee time. The surrounding natural parc is nice though for a big walk or...
