Carifesa Caribbean foodcafe — Restaurant in Amsterdam

This place is a gem. The decor is relaxed but stylish. It really feels like a little Caribbean bar was moved whole to Amsterdam. We had the Jerk Chicken and the Tilapia. Portions are modest but the prices are also very reasonable. The food was very very tasty. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and crispy on the outside. Perfection. I don't know what spices they added to the rice with beans, but I intend to find out because it was so good and felt very light. To top it off, the people working there were extremely nice. The only point for improvement was the desert. We had some pudding with raisins, and it was tasty, but the texture was a bit too liquid. A bit thicker would have been better. This restaurant is a hidden jem! I would love to propose it for a Michelin star. We ordered the food exactly as we wanted it and that was what arrived. Totally freshly cooked for us by the owner's wife, the chef. The taste was out of this world and the presentation was superb. OK we had to wait 25 minutes for it to arrive but that gave us the time to watch the world go bye.

We had expected Jamaican food but the family is actually from Surinam. Whatever: the food tasted better than I had dreamt about. I don't understand why we were the only customers. Give this excellent restaurant a go. You will not be disappointed. Move it into posh surroundings and it would be worth that Michelin star. And would cost you 5...

Look, I really want to give this place 5 stars but I cannot. The food is absolutely top notch, and although the portions could maybe been a bit larger, you can taste the passion that has been put into this food, it's delicious!

But sadly, I do have to be honest. Waiting for over 70 minutes for only 2 mains, while there are only 3 other guests within the restaurant, is just absurd. I hope that they were just having an off day because it would not be good for business.
