Canadian Corner — Restaurant in Brunssum

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, cute decor. We had never been to this place and had a gift card from work to use so we thought let's try it out.. Sad to say I doubt we will return. I ordered a chicken burger and it seemed like it came from a frozen package of highly processed meat, it was pink inside. Also very oily and wet outside . Toppings designed to fall off. Most would cut tomatoes into circles but they added thickly chopped. It didn't taste bad, but not like chicken either. We were a bit turned off to see that sides are sold separately but mine came with a salad that was tasty. Normally I wouldn't eat that dressing but theirs was good.

Husband got steak. Asked to substitute a sauce which was done without issue. Request for medium doneness was not adhered to. It was raw inside He's not one to complain or return food but he did this time. He promptly received a new serving. More done though still a bit on the rare side. The mushroom sauce he substituted for wine sauce was tasty. We both enjoyed the fries but they are decent most places, not a standout here.

Perhaps a pizza would have been a better order, seems most had pizza on their tables.

BTW just because someone speaks English with you doesn't mean they can't understand Dutch.. Hopefully the other English speaking people you laughed about...

Very nice and good, relaxed atmosphere.

For some reason there was a mix-up and our starters and main courses arrived at the same time but we honestly didn't mind. The starters were delicious and the mains were also nice. The relish and sauce on my burger really elevated the flavour.

The only reason I didn't give five stars is that my burger was very rare. In the middle it was literally like eating raw minced beef straight from the fridge, and I don't like that. I wouldn't make a bolognese sauce and then garnish it with cold, raw beef, so why should a burger be raw?

Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a little pink in my burger but entirely raw isn't very appealing. I have no idea if this is the way they always serve their burgers but I would suggest that if like me you don't like it that way, specify your preference...

I really am struggling to understand how this place has such a high review and could only put it down to limited options in the local area.

I had "calamari" to start, followed by a burger. The calamari is the worst I have ever eaten, considering it is my go to for starter choices, and the burger was greasy and undercooked. When I told the staff, there was no sign or reimbursement (a new dish was not an option as the quality of the products are cheap).

My wife and I have eaten there twice now (a year between visits) forgetting why we didnt like it the first time. Despite the Netherlands being a bit pricier for its food, this place really is overpriced for the quality and you would be better off going anywhere else.

The theme of the place really could be a true novelty in this area, if only its standards were...
