This delightful intimate tavern will have you charmed in no time. Obviously, the place started as a tavern with the restaurant taking over the area. The interior is quirky, and there are a lot of the original features still standing, not to mention the gorgeous wrought iron staircase that leads to the toilets below. The tables are placed close to each other, so lending to hushed conversations and enjoyable eavesdropping scenarios. The menu is small, but there are enough choices to book a speedy return in the near future. I suggest you try the sirloin steak with truffle butter as it was beautifully cooked to perfection. Delicious plentiful food, best fries we had this trip (and maybe ever), beautiful setting on the canal-side. Lovely atmosphere with the place pretty full of visitors and locals (one of which taught us the proper technique to eat mussels!) We both had starters and mains and were more than full at the end, after a long day's cycle trip. We asked for the tuna cooked rare and they forgot this, but almost immediately after giving it to us, told us and offered to redo it, before we even questioned it. The redone tuna was excellent. We were on a “tasty walk” the other day in beautifull Gouda. It was cold and windy and me and my walking partner were hungry and in need of warmth in our belly.

We take away’d the speciality of Kamphuisen restaurant: the portuguese prepared mussels. For more than 20 years on their menu, I understood that this food was crafted to perfection.
