A Historic Adventure at Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Erenstein
Despite stepping into the Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Erenstein with a possibly broken toe (we'll find out tomorrow!), our spirits were high.
I was swiftly aided by the compassionate reception staff who supplied me with ice and painkillers. Such a warm welcome set a positive tone for our stay.
After all, how could one resist the charm of this establishment that has been standing proud since the 14th century?
Situated a brief 5-minute walk away from the castle, just enough time to pretend you're on a royal procession through your kingdom. The rooms offer an amiable atmosphere with upgrades available for a price that doesn’t require you to plunder a treasure trove. Yes, there is carpet – it lends a certain kind of atmosphere, although it has held onto its history perhaps a tad too passionately, retaining a not-so-fresh odor. The rooms had a comforting bed and bathtub. During our stay, we found delight in the simple joys of mulberry picking in the rich trails nearby, a sweet addition to our adventure.
Dinner time saw us navigating the historic grounds up the stairs to the smaller dining room on the right, a choice that traded views and more space for a more intimate, let's just say cramped, setting. Here, amidst the company of a replica plated armor standing guard, we shared space with a presumed father-son duo. The younger of whom couldn't help but cast admiring glances at my girlfriend, somewhat more interested in her than his own dessert, adding an uncomfortable yet somewhat amusing chapter to our dining tale.
The restaurant in the castle — a structure with roots dating back to the year 1331 — still brought a touch of romance and antiquity to our dinner. The food was decent, albeit not the centerpiece of the experience, with the staff putting up a heartwarming performance of professionalism and friendliness that somewhat made up for the culinary aspect.
A word of advice for potential visitors — late reservations (8:20pm call on a Friday) might lead to a main-course-only affair, albeit delivered with utmost courtesy and a smile.
For those contemplating a visit, bear in mind that the Netherlands’ regulations on monumental buildings mean that modern conveniences such as air conditioning are off the table, preserving the authenticity of historic sites like the Erenstein. It’s a warm embrace from history, both figuratively and literally.
The true hero of our adventure was the great outdoors, with the nearby reservoir home to a theater of swans, ducks, and a choir of other birds, harmonizing with a diverse range of flora to offer a picturesque setting for a walk (preferably with a healthy toe).
Conclusively, the Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Erenstein offered more than just a stay; it was an adventure woven with historic threads and dotted with sweet mulberries. It is a gem that goes beyond a rating, promising an experience rich with stories waiting to...
Read moreI wanted to give my child (and myself the once in a lifetime experience of spending a night at a castle hotel. But after booking, when I asked for gluten free options to the breakfast, I learned that while they had such options, the night would be spent at the castle farm and just the breakfast at the castle, which held the restaurant. But not only was that not true, the "farm" even lacked a farm's rustic charm. Upon arrival I learned that the restaurant closed at 9 p.m and there was nothing to eat, not even some fruit could be had even at the hotel bar. ||What I found very upsetting was that it was late, I had problems finding the place, it was raining and I was a tired single mither with an even more tired tiddker and the hotel staff while friendly made not a single sign of making my check in easier ir assist me in any way. For instance I had to walk out again after mounting and descending three floors of stairs with luggage for two into tge rain because they insusted that they had to have the cars license plate numbers fir security reasons. I had stayed already a week in Holland and nobody had requested those. Besides, since I told them the first letters, they could have offered someone else fir it or tgat ut could wait till the morning when I was less tired instead if making the exhausted child do all those ways, as it would clearly nit stay alone in a foreign room with its mother vanished fir long at dark.||In the furst morning the chikd ran ahead and got list in the hitel and they tokd me tgey had seen the chikd in tge toilet, where she was nit and not one of tgem git up to help find a list toddler at the hotel. My child found me finally alone, crying and afraid since she had gone some stairs too much into the cellar. While the employees sent me to look in the wrong place, instead of saying they did not see the child or suggest tips where she could have gone. ||I also had to ask the reception for the gluten free option and they went then to the kitchen. They tokd me they had prepared a gluten free package, which raised expectations and ended up being three pre-cooked buns that had to be baked in tge oven and arrived when we were basically finishing the meal. Wondered why the could nit ask the night befire at which time we intended having breakfast and what they planned.I also duscovered that the bin in the room had nit been emptied from orevioys guests letting me wonder what else had not been cleaned.||I also found out tgat there are difference in prices depending where you booked and it makes me think that they offer their no lift/elevator/air condition rooms below the top through the cheapest one. So when you book there you don't even know that you get that. ||But we loved the room as it was big and very spacy and comfy. Unfortunately there is no view as you just see trees all around in front of you.But trees is a lot better than many other possible views...
Read moreI stayed here last night and I was really disappointed. I haven’t ever written a bad review but I feel the need.||||Was staying there for one night as I was on a business trip. When I arrived at the hotel at 8:30pm I was told that the bar and restaurant were not open so I couldn’t get any food or drink, I was given a map and told to walk to the town. To be honest I didn’t know what to expect and it was late so I was ok with that.||||When I got to my room I was really shocked, there was two half made beds, the cupboard were full on rubbish and nothing looked like it had been cleaned. Although I was disappointed I was there one night so I thought suck it up and get some rest. ||||The bathroom looked nice so I’ll take a bath and go to bed.now this is why I give it one star, the towels were stained with brown marks. White towels Stained and they smelt of damp, I was so shocked. I had to drip dry. I went to reception to complain as I was disgusted but guess what no one was there.||||This morning I went for breakfast and sat myself at the table. I saw someone near the kitchen and I asked where the breakfast was, she blanked me. I saw another girl and asked her, and she spoke to the lady I saw by the kitchen... guess what she was the waitress. She rudely pointed at a small room with bread and cheese and said it’s in there..... by this point I was interrupting her conversation.... very rude.||||Anyways I’ve ranted on but it’s honestly the worst hotel I’ve every stayed at, I felt really dirty and unclean after staying a night there and the staff were very rude. Never again. My advise don’t book this...
