Great food with an interesting philosophy, served by inadequate staff.
I dined here about 2 months ago as part of a business trip and had a poor experience. I stayed in the post plaza hotel and my fiance came along as well. After thinking about my experience a few more times, I decided to just post my thoughts here. I love the fact that students are given an opportunity to learn in this environment, especially with teachers around them who are there to support them. A great place to start a career in hospitality. Despite the expertise in this restaurant, the phony attempts made at rehearsed service made me feel like a customer, not a guest.
With the few number of guests in the restaurant and the redundant amount of students serving you, having a private conversation is impossible. Students stare at your every bite, waiting to pick up your plate. Eagerness is appreciated, but please let me eat in peace and above-all let us talk privately.
Food was obviously made with care and precision. Their philosophy presents itself on the plate. The progression through the courses is great. Price to quality is absolutely worth it. Students however have no clue what they are serving. Kudos to the chefs for their culinary art.
All in all, the total experience was dissapointing. We were served food and drinks, but not in a hospitable manner. Contrastingly, one of the students, while somewhat untrained in his mannerism (opposite of the image they to present), was very personal and warm, clearly showing his care for us. While the total experience was very poor, his caringness is what we choose...
Read moreA couple of weeks ago we went to Wannee. It was a surprising experience, in it’s most positive meaning! We were welcomed in the bar with a glass of cava and several appetizers, among which the beetroot dim sum 👌🏽. The restaurant has a very open and modern design that suits the atmosphere. The diner menu is based on the 80/20 principle and surprises you with very tasty and appealing dishes such as KFC Cauliflower (better than the actual KFC 🤫) and a beautiful Beluga style version of potato and leek. Cassian served us some great wines (and some great stories!) and J Yoon and Irene served us in a very hospitable and professional way. We stayed in Notiz Hotel, so we were lucky and got to enjoy breakfast in Wannee as well. Wannee serves a standard breakfast ánd an a la carte breakfast. On this a la carte menu you find both local and international bites, which are a great contribution to your breakfast! We especially loved the French Toast and the Miso Soup. During breakfast we were served by Mark, who was just a natural. Long story short; when in Leeuwarden, visit Wannee. The food, the drinks, but especially the hospitality of the students guarantee a...
Read moreHad a delicious 4 course dinner tonight! I graduated myself from the International Hotel Management school in Leeuwarden 5 years ago, and could not wait to come back as a guest! The bar is beautifully renovated. When we entered we got a glass of water followed by 3 amuses in the bar. Which had a very easy going and relaxed vibe. When we finished these 3 small dishes we went to the restaurant. All food was great and a glass of cava went along with it very well. The staff/students were very polite and made sure we could just sit back and relax and enjoy our evening. Everything was just great! Unfortunately I do not live close by, but would definitely like to come back once they have a new menu again. Highly...
