Sin Jah Restaurant — Restaurant in Leeuwarden

Note: I didn’t book a reservation here - I probably missed that detail on their page. Anyway, I walked in.

Typically, if a restaurant can’t accommodate walk-ins, they inform us politely. I didn’t realize a reservation was required - that’s on me - but there’s definitely a better way to communicate that to customers.

The person who greeted us started with, “Don’t you know it’s a tradition in the Netherlands to make a reservation?” I was taken aback - Is that really a tradition? He could have denied us in a much more polite way. Just saying, there’s no need to be rude to people.

Again, this review is only for the person who greeted us. Other than that, I believe the food and the rest of the experience would have been amazing.

I ordered for delivery - the food was handed to me in a plain plastic bag, the ones you use for the trash. When I opened the food, the sushi was mushed to one side because I guess it wasn't set straight during delivery, and the nigiri pieces were the tiniest ones I have ever seen. The food was mediocre at best, and there was an excessive use of plastic packaging, like for the soy sauce and ginger - it's obvious the restaurant just bought a pack of ready ginger and soy sauce to have on hand to throw in. There was literal tape around the sushi box to keep it closed. For a restaurant that stands out for its 'boujeeness' and how expensive it is, I expected much more, in terms of packaging, delivery, the quality of food, and the presentation of it. Wouldn't...

We decided to order from Sin Jah for the first time yesterday, and I am so glad we did! We got a tapasbox with cheesy beef and yakitori chicken as tapas, and daging roedjak as a main.

The food was so amazing. The meat was super tender and the flavour was superb. We were surprised by the presentation! Everything was packed really nearly in really nice packaging.

To our surprise, we found a free mini-cheesecake with our order, which was so nice!

We enjoyed our food so much, we're ordering from here again today, because we're keen to try what else Sin Jah...
