Last weekend, I had the pleasure of dining at Brasserie TOF, an elegant Dutch restaurant nestled in the charming town of Oirschot. Vriendelijke bediening, goed eten. De Tiramisu viel tegen (gortdroge cake op mascaponecreme en met daarnaast wat klontjes koffielikeur) en stuurde ik terug naar de keuken. De eigenaar stond in de keuken en kwam discussiëren: ze zei dat ik de kaart niet goed gelezen en dat er niks mis mee was. Op de kaart stond inderdaad 'losgeslagen' Tiramisu (wat ik niet begreep), maar het smaakte gewoon niet. Einde van de avond kwam de rekening en de Tiramisu stond er gewoon op. Ik vroeg de bediening om die er af te halen. Waarop de eigenaresse weer de keuken uitkwam om verhaal te halen. Ze zei; de presentatie beviel u niet, maar u moet m wel gewoon betalen. Maar ik had er slechts een hap van gegeten. Ik wilde hem natuurlijk niet afrekenen, dat is gebruikelijk als je wat terugstuurt. Ze zei dat dat stelen was en dat ze de politie zou bellen. Mijn voorstel voor een compromis (we delen het verschil) was ook niet genoeg. Ze trok een kopje thee van de rekening (nog niet de helft van de Tiramisu). Ik heb het maar laten gaan en heb afgerekend. Maar ik denk niet dat we hier ooit nog komen. Gewoon gênant, dat iemand twee keer komt discussiëren aan je tafel in een vol restaurant. Over een gerechtje van 6,50. Nou niet echt...

Dat is best tof, daar in Oirschot: brasserie TOF!, met pal ernaast De Gelagkamer. Zijn het nou twee aparte zaken of toch niet? Het grote terras aan de voorzijde straalt eenheid uit, maar op de website staat: In De Gelagkamer kun je net als TOF! terecht voor goed eten en drinken, maar kun je er wat langer en uitgebreider lunchen en dineren. Bij TOF! kun je daarentegen ook terecht voor een snelle(re) hap of een lunch of diner.

Ik dook TOF! binnen voor de avonddis en werd door gastvrij personeel onthaald. De wat knusse inrichting deed goed aan. Vooraf kreeg ik een met veel garnalen gelardeerde vissoep, die prima smaakte. Hoofd was de kip saté-schotel. Netjes op twee schalen geserveerd met lekkere frietjes en fijn gegaarde saté met een knappe pinda-saté-saus. Een mooie maaltijd dus, waar niets op viel...
