Evin Restaurant — Restaurant in Rotterdam

Evin is a Turkish restaurant specialized in grilled meat and kebap, although they also have some mezes and more homestyle dishes. They prepare almost everything on their menu themselves and you can tell it from the freshness and taste of the food. Especially the sarma and soup. Their sarma is one of the closest in taste in the Netherlands to what I was used to having in Istanbul.

The meats are well seasoned and the portions are very generous. They have a wide selection of vegetarian dishes as well as meat based options with chicken, beef, lamb and seafood. They serve bread on the side with every meal, although the bread wasn't as fresh when we visited.

3 course menu was not spectacular. Starter was supposed to be a mix of 7 warm and cold mezzes, unfortunately it was a little plate with straight out of supermarket quality salads. The mixed grill was good though. After I ordered a bottle of sparkling water, I noticed it was over date. On the bottle it said that it must not be sold after January 2018. As I showed this to the lady, she told me it was bottled at that date, which started a discussion. She said she would show this to the manager. Minutes later they took out all the bottles and you could tell that they did not like this at all. After a while the lady i complained to, was nowhere to be seen as the same for the manager. Het eten was qua smaak wel oké maar niet in verhouding met de prijs. 3 gangen menu, voorgerecht was zeker wel lekker, hoofdgerecht niks bijzonders en toetje heel beperkt in keuze. 2 fanta en 2 cola en je bent €13 verder, erg duur dus. Restaurant is op zich wel leuk en gezellig ingericht maar niet praktisch omdat een hoge bar met veel spullen erop en brede pilaren het zicht flink beperken. Waar het echt flink tekort schiet is de service. Bediening spreekt blijkbaar alleen maar Engels, voor mij geen punt maar misschien voor een ander wel. Bediening is echter zeer slecht, wij moesten elke keer moeite doen om bediend te worden. Het personeel lijkt je bijna te ontwijken. Tegen de tijd dat wij ons tweede cola/fanta kregen waren wij al klaar met het hoofdgerecht en was het dus overbodig. Ook bij de rekening dan nog onduidelijkheid. Wij hadden een dinerbon van Douglas met €20 korting op de totaalrekening. Er was een mail gestuurd dat 3 gangen menu €27,50 was. Dus 1 gast betaald €7,50 en de tweede €27,50. Echter vroegen wij aan het personeel wat wij uit het menu konden kiezen, deze wees de 3 gangen menu's aan. Die van €27,50 was alleen vegetarisch dus wij kozen er eentje van €26,50 waar wel vlees bij zat. Eindrekening €66. Personeel moet de manager erbij halen als je zegt dat je 20 euro korting zou hebben. Je zou dan zeggen dat je dan €46 moet afrekenen omdat je 20 korting krijgt. Niet dus, €48 volgens de manager. Dus geen €20 korting maar €18. Had geen zin meer om mijn avondje uit te verpesten met een discussie om €2. Tips voor het restaurant: zorg ervoor dat de bediening niet samen bij de bar gaan staan om te kletsen. Verspreid op 3 punten in het restaurant zodat ze zicht hebben op alle tafels. Opletten of klanten wat nodig hebben, lege glazen zijn een indicatie dat er misschien een hand omhoog zal gaan voor bediening. Als het eten geserveerd is, kom dan even langs na een paar minuten om te vragen of alles naar wens is. Haal al die spullen die op de bar staan eraf, ziet er niet uit en beperkt het zicht waardoor de tafel in de hoek niet bediend wordt omdat het niet zichtbaar is. Als gasten willen roken en dus dat buiten doen, vertel ze dan dit niet te doen voor de voordeur, ik hoef die stank niet te inhaleren als ik naar binnen wil. Laat je personeel hier ook...
